Native Nations' Rising!

Native Nations' Rising!
Melissa Bennett (Umatilla/Nez Perce/Sac & Fox) brings her own spiritual and activist spirit to help us understand the new and old currents of  Native American life. Native people and white environmentalists are often now supporting each other in our joint struggles against new fossil fuel infrastructure.
  • How can we work together with respect and love,
  • what is our shared history,
  • what is our new Unitarian Universalist role?
Melissa Bennett is a writer and storyteller. She has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize in poetry and is interested in story as medicine, especially its ability to heal historical trauma among indigenous communities.
Measure 97
Do you want to vote your conscience and help children, schools, health care, just about everything in the state that helps people. Vote YES on 97. Out of all the measures on the Oregon ballot, this one will have the most impact.
Is this measure perfect -- no. No tax measure is perfect. This one is better than most because it taxes large corporations with more than $25 million in Oregon Sales. These corporations are under-taxed in Oregon compared to the rest of the country. You can find reasons to NOT vote for it if you look -- business interests are telling you it's a bad measure. But there are a lot of reasons to vote yes. Most of the reasons attend your local elementary school.

Below is a something on Measure 97 for your congregation's newsletter. Put it in there -- It's important!

Warmly --

What will make the the biggest difference to Oregon's children, the under-insured and seniors?

Vote Yes on

Out of all the measures on the ballot, this one will have the most impact. That is why Oregon Unitarian Universalist Voices for Justice has endorsed measure 97. Oregon has been struggling to pay for schools, health care and take care of seniors for years. We, as a state, are falling behind in caring for children and people in need. The money from the tax will come from corporations with more than $25 million in Oregon sales. No tax is is perfect, but this one helps redress the balance of taxes paid by individuals and corporations.
