Hi <<First Name>>!

Here is Olesya Radilova, Development Director of the Floating EKA Foundation. I've been thinking about whether to send this letter to you as yesterday we all woke up in a different world. But finally decided to do it.

It is always tricky to answer when people ask me where I am originally from since I was born in Estonia, my father is Ukrainian and currently lives there, but I lived in Kazakhstan, studied in the Czech Republic and Poland, and currently live in St. Petersburg, Russia. I love all these countries and the people living there.

In 2020, I met five absolutely incredible people from Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Russia, and the USA. With proud hearts, we registered our Polish cultural foundation, Floating EKA to positively change the Baltic Sea Region through the power of art and culture.
Our organization's charter states that we exist to develop the good-neighborliness of countries around the Baltic Sea and beyond. And today, the existence of Floating EKA and its team became such a crucial thing, helping me not to fall into a depression but continue developing our peace-building ideas. I realized that it is something I could do to contribute to building a peaceful society, especially now, in such a difficult time.

And as a feminist icon Virginia Woolf wrote in her 1940 essay “Thoughts On Peace in an Air Raid” - “Thinking is my fighting.” That is more powerful than ever today!

Therefore, we will continue thinking and developing our peace-building project Common Water no matter what. For 18 months, we have been working on it. In 2021, we applied for six grants, two entered the second round of discussions, and we are now on the final stage of negotiations. There is much hope that the project will happen in 2022. Fingers crossed! 🤞
