Pastor’s Notes for April 2, 2020

We had a lovely group of people join us for the service at noon yesterday. It was very nice to hear Pastor Meyer preach. Thank you! If you would like to view the service, you may find it by CLICKING HERE.

While I’m at it, I finally got the bible class from last Sunday posted on YouTube. This is a recording of our Zoom Bible Class on Genesis 3. I learned a lot in teaching it, which I hope will help my teaching in future classes. To may find it on YouTube by CLICKING HERE.

Our Virtual Academy!

Did you know that Holy Cross Lutheran Academy is going virtual? Our academy staff are working hard on keeping connected with their students during these tricky times. If you have a chance, go over to our Academy Web Site to find out more!

From the Deaconess

We pray for those who are recovering from surgery

  • Laurie Luckemeyer
  • Lynn Gartner (friend of Vicki Merkh)
  • Raquel Krach Massa (Daughter of Rick Krach)
Lord Jesus Christ, receive our thanks for hearing our prayers on behalf of Laurie, Lynn and Raquel, who have successfully undergone surgery, and for giving to the surgeon and medical team the skills that have been effectually administered.  Restore Laurie, Lynn and Raquel fully to health and strength, in Your time and according to Your good and gracious will; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen  (Pastoral Care Companion)

Why We Shelter-in-place

I saw this article from the Sac Bee on the web yesterday. It is a sobering statistic that 1/3 of the Coronavirus cases in Sacramento County at this point are directly connected to churches continuing to have services when they shouldn’t. I have no way of knowing the degree of accuracy for this, but it does serve as a good reminder that this isn’t a game, it isn’t a conspiracy, but that real lives may be at stake. Please be careful, and stay healthy!

A Couple Thoughts on ZOOM

There’s been a lot of stuff on the inter-webs this week about Zoom. They have centered on the fact that Zoom has some security problems with it that can be exploited.

I believe that despite these things, it still remains the best platform for our use because 1) There isn’t anything out there that is any better without costing major \[\]; 2) We are very small fry in the world of the internet, and sometimes security by obscurity is the best practice; and 3) The thought of trying to teach everyone a different platform at this point is kinda challenging.

I’m watching all of it. They have all ready fixed a couple of their bugs. If you work in the field and have counsel that would be helpful to church about this, please email me. -Pastor

THURSDAY (April 2, 2020)

In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

Reading

“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” (Romans 8:9–11)

Meditation

You are not of the old, sinful flesh. God dwells in you. You are baptized. Satan has no hold on you. And the Holy Spirit that same Spirit will raise you from the dead at the Last Day. That is the Spirit of God. That is the Spirit God gave to you. That is how you are righteous in His sight.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member

Show your grace to Steven this day, as he goes about the callings you have given to him. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)

Almighty God, by Your great goodness mercifully look upon Your people that we may be governed and preserved evermore in body and soul; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Lord’s Prayer
