Teen Talk Update

Christmas 2013

Seasons greetings from all at Teen Talk!

Teen Talk will close for Christmas on the 20 December 2013 and will re-open on 06 January 2014. We look forward to seeing you again in the New Year.

Hoody Fest 2013

The Annual Harwich Hoody Festival has seen another successful year with more than 300 people in attendance for the third time. The event aims to bring together all generations of the community to show that not everyone who wears a hoody is bad to mix with and promote a positive image of young people. This year’s one day entertainment festival, organised by Teen Talk’s youth forum Harwich Inspired Youth Action (HIYA), took place on 09 November at the Park Pavilion in Barrack Lane. The festival featured local young performers in a Battle of the Bands competition with runners up, Miranda Maurice picking up a £100 music voucher, and winners the Profile collecting a session in a recording studio. The festival, opened by the High Sheriff of Essex, also included a range of local stall holders with cakes crafts and family games.
Teen Talk Manager, Hayley Lovett, said: 'The event was a great success and has really shown what young people can do. We'd like to thank everyone who contributed to making the Hoody Festival a great event.' On the success of this year’s event the organisers, HIYA  are already a buzz with plans for next years Hoody Festival and are excited to announce that the 4th Festival will be taking place on 18 October 2014. Our Funders

Awards Evening

30 volunteers from Teen Talk (Harwich) were presented with awards at an evening held on 29 November 2013 to celebrate their outstanding volunteering achievements throughout 2013. The evening, held at Long Meadows Community Centre, saw awards presented to Harwich Inspired Youth Action (HIYA), family forum Harwich Helpers, and volunteers from the Harwich Hoody Festival. British Red Cross First Aid Certificates, Essex Art and i Will Volunteering Awards were also presented along with awards to young people for participation in cookery workshops with the Harwich and Dovercourt Rotary Club and Employment Skills training with the Essex County Council Targeted Youth Team. The awards evening was attended by more than 70 dignitaries, friends and family members and saw a live performance from Hoody Fest Battle of the Bands winners the Profile.

Local Giving

Looking to make a charitable donation this Christmas? Why not donate to Teen Talk?
With localgiving.com
we've set up our own charity webpage to make it quick and easy for you to donate to a local charity supporting people in your community. As little as £5 can contribute towards providing a young person with support to overcome the difficulties they face. To help us continue to support Tendring's young people visit our page here.

The Garden
Project

2013 saw the start of the Teen Talk Garden Project where, with the support of the Prince’s Trust, Harwich Rotary Club and graffiti artist Brave One, our disused courtyard garden was transformed into an edible community garden with two large raised beds for growing fruits and vegetable and some truly unique artwork. In January we will be kick starting the garden project for 2014 and are looking for young volunteers who would like to pick up some practical new skills in our inspiring outdoor space. The first planning meeting of the year will be talking place on Wednesday 29 January. To get involved call 01255 504800 or drop in to our centre.
