Tendring's Young People Celebrated at
Awards Evening 2016

Young people from across Tendring have been celebrated for their outstanding achievements at Teen Talk’s annual awards evening on Tuesday 22nd November at the Adult Community Learning Centre in Harwich.

More than 100 dignitaries, friends and family members were in attendance as awards were presented to service users from across Teen Talk's projects. Awards were presented in recognition of young people's volunteering achievements, Cookery Workshop and Summer Activity participation, contributions to the Harwich Wildlife project, Outstanding Achievement in youth Forum Harwich Inspired Youth Action (HIYA) and The Phoenix awards which were presented to young people who have been empowered to overcome personal challenges.

Awards were presented by Colin Hance of Harwich Rotary Club, Marc Sparling of Hughes Electricals, the High Steward of Harwich Chris Strachan,
Mayor of Harwich Town Council Cllr Pam Morrison, Mayoress Mrs Kim Warner and High Sheriff of Essex Mrs L J Rolfe JP.
The final award of the night was the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award, which was presented by the High Sheriff of Essex, Mrs Rolfe, to dedicated HIYA member Brandon Carter in recognition of his commitment to the youth forum throughout 2016. Brandon has been involved in all of HIYA's campaigns this year and has continued to play a key role in the groups fundraisers, crime campaign video and Christmas Gift Project.
Following the awards presentation guests were treated to a live performance from Abbie Hartley, the winner of the Battle of the Bands competition at the 2015 Hoody Fest. Abbie has since gone on to perform across the county and is now a professional singing and piano teacher. There were also animal encounters with lizards and hissing cockroaches, provided by youth volunteers of Teen Talk's new Harwich Wildlife Project.
Jodie Hall, Project Manager and Support Worker with HIYA, said of the awards evening: 'It was brilliant to see so many people celebrating the achievements of the young people Teen Talk have worked with. The young people should feel very proud of themselves and we'd like to thank everyone involved for making the evening such a great success.'
