Teen Talk Update

Christmas 2014

Seasons greetings from all at Teen Talk!

Teen Talk will be closed for Christmas from 20 December 2014 and will re-open on 05 January 2015. We look forward to seeing you again in the New Year.

Hoody Fest 2014

Teen Talk's youth forum, Harwich Inspired Youth Action (HIYA), have again seen success with their 4th Annual Harwich Hoody Festival as more than 300 people joined them for the one day entertainment festival. The event aims to bring together all generations of the community to show that not everyone who wears a hoody is bad to mix with and promote a positive image of young people. This year's event took place on 20 September at the Park Pavilion in Barrack Lane. The festival featured local young performers in a Battle of the Bands competition with winner, Alfie Yates (pictured), picking up the grand prize of a recording studio session. The festival also included a range of local stall holders with cakes, crafts and family games. Congratulations go to all involved in making the event another hit and to all the volunteers who helped to make it such as success. Plans for 2015's event are already well underway. To get involved just call

Harwich Centre Make Over

This year has seen the Edible Community Garden really take shape following it's transformation last summer but the centre's make over doesn't stop there! We've been working hard to refurbishing our main building too and in the New Year will be getting ready to transform our workshop into a shiny new community room. Keep an eye out for exciting new updates.

Awards Evening

Young volunteers were presented with awards to celebrate their outstanding achievements at Teen Talk’s Annual awards evening on 29 November. The event saw awards presented in British Red Cross First Aid Training and Essex County Council ‘I Will’ Volunteering as well as awards recognising the efforts of the young people involved with HIYA and the cookery and gardening projects at the Teen Talk centre. More than 70 friends, family and dignitaries joined the celebration. The winner of the overall Outstanding Achievement Award was 18 year old Bethany Slater for her dedication to the HIYA Energy Drinks Campaign that aims to make young people think about the effects of energy drinks on the body. Beth’s ITV News broadcast on the campaign, which was aired in November 2014, can be seen again here. Our congratulations go to all the award winners of the night and we look forward to working with all our youth volunteers again in 2015!
