Welcome to our June issue of Your Community, Your Planet! - it's a bit late this month - we were waiting for the sun to come out for two days on a row! Anyway... Also a big welcome to our news readers who signed up at the Active Seniors Day in the Park!

Our projects and services...

New Volunteer Development Officer: Sarah Burgess has recently joined the DRCET team as maternity cover for Katherine Mackinnon. We caught up with Sarah to find out a wee bit more about her and her thoughts on her new job!

Volunteer Garden Party: As part of the nationwide celebrations for Volunteers' Week, our local volunteers enjoyed a volunteer garden party in the Kingsway Court Community Garden. We had a great day and many thanks to everyone that came along and a big thank you to the Kingsway Court women's group for some fantastic food!!

Streets Ahead award: we were delighted to be shortlisted for a Streets Ahead award this year and although we lost out on the night to Love Milton we had great fun at the Awards evening. And we were delighted that one of our partners, the West Glasgow Green Gym, scooped the Best Community Cleanup award.

LINKES Summer Fun Day: the LINKES summer fun day is taking place on Sat 11 Jul and we will be along with our pedal powered smoothies and our free Dr Bike checks. There are lots of other activities too!

GHA dog micro chipping event: there will be free dog micro-chipping taking place at the Kingsway Court estate on Mon 13 and Tue 14 Jul. We will have an information stall at the event and we will be doing free Dr Bike checks on the Tuesday!

Active Seniors Day in the Park: The sun shone for the annual  Day in the Park on Tue 9 Jun. We were kept busy promoting our various projects and services. Around 700 people came along and enjoyed the event. Thanks to everyone that filled out a survey or signed up to our eNews.

Play on Pedals bike amnesty: many thanks to everyone that donated a bike to us as part of the Play On Pedals amnesty - over 100 bikes have been collected as part of the amnesty across the city!

Simple Pleasures map: find out more about the Simple Pleasures map here and if you would like hard copies of the map then please pop into the Community Centre where you can pick some up. The maps will also be popping up in various locations throughout the neighbourhood!

Glasgow's Strategic Plan for Cycling: the Council are currently consulting on their strategic plan for cycling 2015-2025 - the deadline for responding is Fri 4 Sep.

MyPark Scotland exhibition: following the recent launch of MyPark Scotland there is an exhibition about the intitiaitve at The Lighthouse until Sun 2 Aug

Active Travel charities vision for improving Scotland's health: An alliance of Scotland’s national walking and cycling charities have launched a joint platform setting out how to radically improve Scotland’s public health by getting Scots more active

New bus route from north west Glasgow to hospital: FirstBus Glasgow has announced new services 15 and 16 will be introduced between Drumchapel or Summerston and the South Glagow hospitals via Partick from 19 Jul.

Bird walk: check out this chirpy wee report from the recent bird walk along the cycle path in Yoker as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the National Cycle Network!

New walking and cycling apps for Glasgow: as part of the Glasgow Future City project two new smartphone apps have recently been launched - one for walking and one for cycling!

Glasgow Wildlife Garden festival: the Festival returns this year with over 70 events happening across the city throughout July.

Scotland's Vision for social enterprise: Building a New Economy - Scotland's vision for social enterprise was recently published by a coalition of social enterprise support bodies and networks.

ParkLives free events: there are a whole load of free events happening in parks across Glasgow as part of the ParkLives initiative.

Community Empowerment Bill passed: the Scottish Paliament recently passed the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Bill giving communitie a range of new powers.

Knightswood Gala Day: this year this community event will take place on Sat 5 Sep at Knightswood Park - more info soon!
