Our projects and services...
WH Malcolm planning application rejected: breaking news
- yesterday the planning application committee overturned the planning officers recommendation and rejected the application
. A huge public turnout forced the meeting to be adjourned for 30 minutes to move to the main voting chamber (a first for the planning committee) and after nearly 2 hours the committee rejected the application. This may not be the end as WH Malcolm have a right to appeal. However a BIG WELL DONE
to everyone that has contributed to the campaign over the past 18 months!
Air Pollution petition success:
as part of the WH Malcolm campaign, Scotstoun Community Council lead on a petition to the Council to address air pollution on South St
and the surrounding area and the petition was successful
We Go Pedal news out now!: the first issue of the We Go Pedal news was printed in January
with lots of useful information about cycling in the local area. Thanks to Cycle Law Scotland
for sponsoring the newsletter.
WAVE volunteer celebration event:
The Glasgow WAVE project will be holding a Volunteer Celebration event from 5pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday 15 March 2016
at Yoker Community Campus. We would like to invite all volunteers in the area
to come long and help us celebrate with great food, great music and cake
Whiteinch Bike Club We Go Pedal family fun day:
the Whiteinch Bike Club
are hosting a family friendly cycle-fest event from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 19 March
at the blaes pitches in Palladium Place in Whiteinch at the back of St Paul’s Primary School.
Play On Pedals and Dr Bike:
the Play On Pedals
project will be hosting four free drop-in sessions at Scotstoun Leisure Centre starting on Sat 27 Feb
. And De'ils On Wheels
will be along at each session offering FREE Dr Bike checks
last week as part of our Glasgow WAVE project we went on a wee community tour with representatives from 5 local organisations
. The purpose was to bring people together to meet and learn about what is happening in the community (which is a lot of stuff!)
We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote campaign:
In the run up to the Holyrood elections to be held in May, a new campaign
has been launched called We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote
and we are delighted to be supporting the campaign
Green Gym in March:
the West Glasgow Green Gym will be in Yoker, Drumchapel and Jordanhill during March
- check out the dates and pop along for a bit of exercise in the fresh air!
De'ils On Wheels:
the De'ils On Wheels bike workshop
is open Wednesday 11am to 3pm and Thursday 1-5pm
and offers quality reused bikes for sale
and affordable bike servicing and repairs. And we also accept donations of unwanted bikes
Place Standard Scotland launched: The Place Standard is a way of assessing places. Whether the place is well-established, undergoing change, or is still being planned, the tool can help you.
Glasgow Wood Recycling Showroom Show-off: Glasgow Wood Recycling have a brand-new retail space. Come along to their South Street Showroom Show-Off between 1 and 2pm on Friday 26 February, and enjoy some cake and music
Social Capital World Forum comes to Glasgow: The 6th Social Capital World Forum will be held on Friday 8 & Saturday 9 April 2016 at the Netherton Community Centre . The theme of this years Forum is "Connecting City and Citizens to create social capital & abundant communities".
New Litter Pick Plus toolkit launched: Litter Pick Plus is a new innovation which looks at all of the additional factors that link together to make an area clean and green.
Whiteinch Bike Club March-ing on!: The Whiteinch Bike Club will recommence on Thursday 3 and Saturday 5 March after the winter break. Based in The Whiteinch Centre, the club meets every second Thursday at 5pm and this is followed on the Saturday by a cycle ride.
Pass It On week: Scotland's annual Pass It On week, which runs from Sat 5th - Sun 13th March, encourages keeping things in use for as long as possible by passing on, swapping, sharing or donating things you no longer use. Our local Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre are hosting a Saturday Swap Shop on Sat 5th March 11am - 1pm.
Pedal on Parliament: Pedal On Parliament 2016 takes place at 12 noon on Saturday 23rd April. This will be the fifth mass bike rides on Holyrood and this year will be particularly important because it’s the Holyrood elections.
Potato Day 2016: The 5th annual Glasgow Allotment Forum Potato Day will be held on Sunday 28 February 2016 from 11am to 3pm in The Reidvale Centre in Dennistoun.
Queen Street station tunnel works will effect local trains: Train services between Glasgow and Clydebank stations, Yoker, Garscadden, Scotstounhill and Jordanhill will be halved when a major station partially closes for 20 weeks from next month.
Clydeplan Strategic Development Plan consultation: Clydeplan have recently published for consultation its Proposed Strategic Development Plan and Strategic Environmental Assessment Environment Report.
Caring for the Clyde: The Clyde River Foundation is delighted to announce that ‘Caring for the Clyde’ – the 4th Citizen Science Meeting – will take place on Saturday 27th February.
With 2016 being a Leap Year, it's the wimmin's turn to propose, and what better way than by bike as this cyclist did in San Francisco
a couple of years ago!!
