It was great to see so many of our venues with outdoor seating so busy last week. Unfortunately this week's weather isn't being so kind but the hospitality businesses I've spoken to who have registered for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme are reporting good take up.
Those registered form part of one of our initial trails on LoyalFree - more details are noted below. There are many opportunities for businesses to be listed on the app - it doesn't have to be a discount or loyalty offer - please get in touch if you'd like to chat about how to make the most of this opportunity. Like most things, I need you to get involved and help to promote this marketing tool - I can sit here all day putting trails and offers on the platform but you are the ones with the relationship with the consumer so please do promote the app to your customers and friends. The more useful the app is to people, the more engagement we get and the more everyone can benefit. We are promoting this on the newly launched Rombalds Radio which has been set up by Nick Babb (founder of Ilkley Chat). More details, including the launch competition details are noted below.
Around 50 people have so far joined the closed Facebook group "Ilkley Business Hub". The group is for Ilkley businesses and employees, to encourage collaboration and sharing of best practice, ask questions etc. This will be open to businesses outside the BID area but limited to the LS29 postcode. It will not be a page for selling and promotion but we hope will build over time to become the 'Ask Ilkley' equivalent for businesses. Please join the page here https://www.facebook.com/groups/IlkleyBusinessHub/ and share with any of your other local contacts.
If you do not already follow Ilkley BID on Facebook or Twitter, please do so. https://www.facebook.com/IlkleyBID/ and https://twitter.com/IlkleyBID
We've been sharing all the relevant government updates and local news for businesses as well as sharing members posts. If you want to bring something to our attention so we can interact with you, remember to tag @IlkleyBID in your post so we get a notification.
If you have any queries about any of the current or proposed plans, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
FREE Advertising & Marketing Tool for BID Members
The LoyalFree platform is now live, thank you to the businesses who have already registered their profile and offers.
To encourage people to download and use the app we are running a competition which will see everyone who downloads the app before the end of August having the chance to win one of three prizes of £100 to be spent at an Ilkley business, one kindly donated by funding allocated to the District Councillors. People who download the app can enter the competition once each day. Please do enter the competition and share from the app onto your socials so we can get this out to the public. We have already published a press release and shared with Ilkley Chat on 4th August and Ilkley Gazette on 5th August which you can read here: https://www.ilkleygazette.co.uk/news/18629406.app-help-businesses-customers-ilkley/ .
We will be adding lots of interactive trails for the whole family to enjoy and so far we have set up the Independent Coffee Trail, The Eat Out to Help Out Trail, Dapper Chaps! Menswear Trail and Ilkley's History and Heritage Trail. Shop 'Til You Drop! - Ladies Clothing & Footwear, Homeware & Lifestyle, Charity Shop Hop! and The Real Ale Trail are currently being set up.
There are some great offers that have been uploaded by some businesses already and this will help encourage people to shop local. In order for this to grow we need more BID members to sign up so if you haven't done so already please do register your business, details on how to do this are mentioned below.
If you haven't already please register your profile by sending an email to email@example.com in the following format:
BID area: Ilkley
Offer / loyalty scheme: (if you don't have an offer yet leave blank)
The Discover Ilkley campaign will form a large part of our Year 2 plan as one of our initiatives to support the local economy. We are now in the process of planning the Discover Ilkley website and linked social media channels.
A holding page is now published and currently there are links to the LoyalFree app, offers, trails and local events. A press release was published last month with a call for local amateur photographers to send through their photographs of Ilkley to be featured on the new website.
Discover Ilkley Stray FM Radio Ads
The BID have funded a Stray FM radio advert to encourage their listeners to visit Ilkley. The 40 second advert details all that Ilkley has to offer, shops, restaurants and exploring and we hope this will reach out to their audience and increase more visitors into the town. If you've missed it on the radio, you can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/user-218534057/stray-fm-advert
Businesses wanted for a LinkedIn Campaign
We are currently working on a LinkedIn campaign to promote some of our 'hidden' businesses. There are some really interesting businesses in the offices around town and we'd initially like to feature 6 BID businesses. The campaign will include a telephone interview and a supporting news piece. We would like to feature different business sectors and if this is of interest to you please get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org. Why not also take advantage of the photography service to accompany the piece?
Community Cargo Bike
Climate Action Ilkley is looking into setting up a community-run electric cargo bike and would like your views on whether and how you might use the scheme. The bike will be parked in a central location in Ilkley and available to rent for a low cost. The bike would offer a low-carbon alternative to the car for journeys where you need to transport large items, shopping and/or children (e.g. shopping, allotment or school runs). The bike will be powerful enough to tackle any hill in the local area, even when heavily loaded. Please give your views here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerKGc8f-Cl-j1hL2Imf-Y6ZWdCK0BLWJhPa7ukGgAipltXVg/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1

Sparkling Bradford Summer Campaign
The Sparkling Bradford Campaign is now live. This is a joint partnership with Visit Bradford, Bradford BID, The Broadway Bradford and Bradford Councilto showcase the Bradford District retailers and hospitality businesses and remind local people now is the time to enjoy their local area!
If you haven't already submitted your business there's still time and it is FREE to join. They will be featuring businesses on the Sparkling Bradford website and also through their social media and PR campaign.
Thank you to everyone who completed the Sales Data survey last month. The new survey for the month of July is now live. Please go to: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/VXGV8LH to upload your Monthly Sales Data for July 2020. We don't ask for specific figures, just the general trend of better or worse than the preceding month.
Due to the current situation its very important that we collate Ilkley's trading data to analyse the impact of the Coronavirus on our local economy. We need to understand the speed in drop of sales and ultimately, the speed of recovery.
Here are some recent photographs taken for Broadley's Bistro. We are still offering this service with up to 4 bookings per month for this free service - please get in touch if you would like to making a booking.
Wishing you all the best and hoping to see you all soon,
Helen & The Ilkley BID Team
