Ilkley BID supporting local businesses during Coronavirus

With coronavirus changing our daily lives, running a business is in new and worrying territory. At Ilkley BID our team is committed to doing our best to help businesses and the local community during this difficult time.

With the situation changing everyday we are aiming to provide a direct link to the most up to date advice for businesses on our recently refreshed Ilkley BID website which includes a link to the latest official government information and advice.

We are in regular contact with Bradford Council about the local support and will receive the most up to date information about processing the grants that are available as soon as this is known. All businesses in premises who pay business rates should have received a letter inviting them to submit their bank details to enable your payment to be made if the council think you are eligible. If you think you are eligible and have not received a letter, please let us know by emailing Many of the £10,000 grants have already been paid out with more being processed each day and the £25,000 grants should start to be paid out in the next few days. We will provide further updates in due course but if you have any serious worries about getting through this month, please contact Helen the BID Manager by emailing

Thank you to those of you who completed our initial survey on how coronavirus has affected your business. We need to understand the changing landscape and we would be really grateful if you will continue to fill in these surveys as we issue them. We hope you appreciate that we are careful not to send out too much communication - we know you all get far too much - but this is a crucial time for us to understand how the local economy is 'feeling', who has changed their business model to adapt and what help you feel is missing etc.

Wishing you all the best and hoping to see you all soon,
Helen &
The Ilkley BID Team
Ilkley To You

In response to the changing business models many of our independents have engaged, we have launched a new campaign – When you can’t come to Ilkley, let Ilkley come to you!

This takes the form of a dedicated website and social media channels (Facebook and Instagram), radio advertising and other methods. If you are continuing to offer online services, whether this is in the form of food and retail deliveries or other services you are now delivering online, please let us know if you would like your business including by completing the form at .

There is strength in numbers so more than ever, we hope you will all collaborate and share this campaign which will morph into something a little different when the time is right.
Monthly Sales Data
To assist Ilkley BID in monitoring trade in the BID area over 5-year term we have prepared a short 4 question survey which will be sent out each month.
Whilst this might seem an insensitive time to ask these questions, with businesses being hit by the coronavirus, its especially important that we collate data to analyse the impact of the virus on our local economy. We need to understand the speed in drop of sales and ultimately, the speed of recovery.

Meercat Cost Cutting Services

Like everyone else, Meercat have had to adapt their business model and so will still be working with us but via online methods and restricted to key commodities – energy, telecoms, merchant services, insurance and DSE assessments (focused on home-working health & safety tests).

This service can be accessed by teleconferencing, or by sending copy bills via WhatsApp (07982 414545) or as previously by emailing

Last month's report showed that so far they have identified £19,354 in savings. Having checked, some businesses ‘haven’t got round to looking' at the report provided yet – please do this if you haven’t already as some of you could be saving thousands of pounds!
Easter Egg trail on hold
The current ‘stay at home’ instruction from the Government means that the planned Easter Egg Trial has been postponed.

The initial response from local business to take part in the trail was so good that we were going to run 3 different trails around the town.
We ask you all to keep the prizes as we will be running the trail later in the year, when we will be in a position to give the local retail economy a boost with a fun, family activity to draw people back into town.

Congratulations to the 2020 Ilkley Business Awards Winners
Ilkley BID Ltd were the headline sponsor for the 2020 Ilkley Business Awards held at the Craiglands Hotel, in March.
The ethos of the awards is to promote and celebrate the amazing businesses we have in the Ilkley area and we were delighted that so many levy members were nominated and won their categories at this year’s event.
Although the coronavirus has meant many of the nominated business are now ‘in hibernation’ the awards were a testament to their hard work and involvement in the local community.
