MARCH 1: IS YOUR PENSION AT RISK? TALK ON BILL C-27

Bill C-27 is an attack on good defined benefit pensions that could allow employers to break their pension promises to thousands of workers and retirees across the country. Justin Trudeau promised to protect retirement for all Canadians – and now he is threatening to go back on his word. The time to fight back is now. Join a community town hall discussion on March 1st, 7pm, at the central branch of the Ottawa Public Library to learn how we can stop this bad bill.


PHOENIX: GOVERNMENT TELLS WORKERS TO WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY 28 TO PRINT TAX SLIPS

On February 22, the federal government provided an update on the Phoenix pay system. To ensure that public service workers receive the correct information, they encouraged all workers impacted by Phoenix to wait until February 28 to print their tax slips. After that, employees are to file their taxes as usual. Read more »


PHOENIX: PSAC CALLS FOR CONTINGENCY FUND

On the first anniversary of Phoenix, PSAC and allied unions are urging the government to include a $75 million Phoenix contingency fund in the upcoming federal budget. For many months now, we’ve been working with the government to help fix Phoenix and find solutions to its numerous problems. Through this work, it has become clear that federal departments and agencies need more staff and training to deal with Phoenix. The $75 million contingency fund will give departments and agencies the resources they need to do this. Read more »

TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED WITH MUSEUM OF HISTORY

Just before 2 am on Thursday morning, after 12 months of negotiations, PSAC’S bargaining team reached a tentative agreement with the Canadian Museum of History. Amongst many other improvements, annual economic increases amount to 5% over 4 years and members will receive a $650 signing bonus. Read more »


FEDERAL WHISTLEBLOWERS NEED BETTER PROTECTION

The Public Servants Disclosure Protection Act fails to protect whistleblowers from reprisals, and is incapable of punishing those who retaliate against whistleblowers for coming forward. That was my message when I testified on February 21st before the House of Commons Government Operations and Estimates Committee, which is currently studying the matter. MARCH 21: THE UNION’S ROLE IN ERADICATING RACISM AND ISLAMOPHOBIA

The PSAC’s Racially Visible Action Committee is organizing a panel discussion on March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, on how leaders from the labour movement can help fight the increased racism which has emerged in Canada recently. The event will feature Khaled El Ghazzar from the National Council of Canadian Muslims, Pastor Anthony Bailey from the Parkdale United Church, and Robyn Benson, PSAC National President. The talk will be held at The Good Companion and will begin at 6pm.

1er MARS: VOTRE RÉGIME DE RETRAITE, EST-IL EN DANGER? PRÉSENTATION SUR LE PROJET DE LOI C-27

Le projet de loi C-27 du gouvernement Trudeau menace la retraite de tous les travailleurs canadiens. Ce projet de loi s’en prend aux régimes de retraite à prestations déterminées en permettant aux employeurs de revenir sur les promesses faites à leurs travailleurs et à leurs retraités. Justin Trudeau a promis de protéger la retraite de tous les Canadiens, mais voilà qu’il menace de revenir sur sa parole. Il faut agir tout de suite. Nous vous invitons à une assemblée communautaire à 19 h, mercredi le 1er mars, pour discuter de ce qui peut être fait pour arrêter ce mauvais projet de loi.


PHÉNIX : LE GOUVERNMENT CONSEILLE AUX FONCTIONNAIRES D’ATTENDRE AU 28 FÉVRIER POUR IMPRIMER LEURS RELEVÉS D’IMPÔT

Le 22 février, le gouvernement fédéral a fait le point sur le système de paye. Il a conseillé aux fonctionnaires touchés par les ratés de Phénix d’attendre au 28 février pour imprimer leurs relevés d’impôt, afin de s’assurer d’avoir en main la bonne information. Après cette date, les fonctionnaires doivent faire leur déclaration de revenus comme à l’habitude. En savoir plus »


PHÉNIX : LES SYNDICATS RÉCLAMENT UN FONDS DE RÉSERVE

En ce premier anniversaire de Phénix, les trois plus importants syndicats du secteur public fédéral pressent le gouvernement de prévoir un fonds de réserve de 75 millions de dollars dans son prochain budget. Les syndicats collaborent avec le gouvernement pour aider à résoudre les nombreux problèmes de Phénix. Or, il apparaît clairement qu’il faut affecter plus de personnel et le former convenablement pour que les agences et les ministères fédéraux puissent reprendre le dessus. Le fonds de réserve de 75 millions de dollars leur donnera les ressources dont ils ont besoin. En savoir plus »

LES DÉNONCIATEURS FÉDÉRAUX DOIVENT ÊTRE MIEUX PROTÉGÉS

La Loi sur la protection des fonctionnaires divulgateurs d’actes répréhensibles ne protège pas les dénonciateurs et ne punit pas ceux qui exercent des représailles contre eux. ACTIVITÉ DU 21 MARS : LE RÔLE DU SYNDICAT DANS LA LUTTE CONTRE LE RACISME ET L’ISLAMOPHOBIE

Le 21 mars, le Comité d’action des membres racialisés de l’AFPC organise un débat pour souligner la Journée internationale pour l’élimination de la discrimination raciale. On y discutera des moyens que peuvent prendre les leaders syndicaux pour freiner la montée du racisme que l’on observe dernièrement au Canada. Les panélistes suivants seront présents : Khaled El Ghazzar, du National Council of Canadian Muslims, le pasteur Anthony Bailey, du Parkdale United Church, et Robyn Benson, présidente nationale de l’AFPC. L’activité se déroulera au centre The Good Companion, à compter de 18 h.
