ELECTIONS 2015: 20 DAYS TO GO!
HAVE YOU REGISTERED WITH ELECTIONS CANADA?
To ensure that you’re able to vote on October 19—or even better, in advance polls—visit the Elections Canada website to verify that you are registered, and to familiarize yourself with the identification you’ll need in order to vote. Even if you were able to vote previously, it’s possible you may no longer be registered, or that your information is out of date, so visit elections.ca today!
JOIN THE DISCUSSION: TELEPHONE TOWN HALL ON ELECTIONS
I will be hosting telephone town halls on the upcoming federal elections at 8pm on October 6 (English) and October 8 (French). If you’re curious about how the race in your riding is shaping up, or have a question about collective bargaining in the context of the election, this town hall is for you. We will call you using the number we have on file for you.
RIDING LEVEL POLLS FOR OTTAWA
Our friends at LeadNow released polling results for Ottawa’s key swing ridings a few days ago, and I’ve summarized the relevant results here from west to east:
Kanata-Carleton: Conservatives leading by 7 points, Liberals 2nd »
Ottawa West Nepean: Liberals leading by 4 points, Conservatives 2nd »
Nepean: Conservatives leading by 6 points, Liberals 2nd »
Orleans: Liberals leading by 15 points, Conservatives 2nd »
ALL CANDIDATES DEBATES IN YOUR RIDING
We’ve launched a page to list all-candidates debates in all ridings in the National Capital Region. Several ridings don’t yet have all candidates debates organized, but we’ll update the page as we receive information. We’ve also linked to online and recorded debates where possible.
JOIN PSAC’S ELECTION CANVASSING IN OTTAWA
We’re still looking for volunteers to help with our ongoing door-to-door canvassing work, where PSAC members speak directly to other members about the importance of the coming elections. We’ve already covered many neighbourhoods in Ottawa and we need your help to keep going, so please sign up today. We’ll train you and work with you every step of the way.
HARPER CONSERVATIVES TARGET PENSIONS ONCE AGAIN
The Federal Government is in the process of drafting legislation representing an unprecedented attack on the retirement security of all Canadians. If the Conservatives are re-elected and push through this legislation, the defined benefit pension plans of federally-regulated workers will be at risk of being converted to target plans with lower pension benefits for both retirees and active employees. SYRIAN REFUGEE CRISIS: GOVERNMENT MUST RESPOND ADEQUATELY
While countries around the world step up their efforts towards the growing Syrian refugee crisis, it is clear that the Harper Conservatives are not doing enough. PSAC calls on the government to do the right thing and respond immediately and adequately to the crisis and ensure that the necessary resources are in place. Read more »

ÊTES-VOUS INSCRIT AUPRÈS D’ÉLECTIONS CANADA ?
Pour vous assurer de pouvoir voter le 19 octobre, et même mieux, par anticipation, rendez-vous sur le site Web d’Élections Canada. Vérifiez si vous êtes inscrit. Informez-vous des pièces d’identité dont vous aurez besoin pour voter. Même si vous avez pu voter par le passé, il est possible que vous ne soyez plus inscrit ou que vos coordonnées ne soient plus à jour. N’attendez pas ! Rendez-vous sur elections.ca dès aujourd’hui !
PARTICIPEZ AUX FORUMS TÉLÉPHONIQUES SUR LES ÉLECTIONS
Deux forums téléphoniques sur les élections auront lieu le 6 octobre à 20 h en anglais et le 8 octobre à 20 h en français. Si vous voulez savoir ce qui se passe dans votre circonscription ou avez des questions sur la négociation collective dans le contexte des élections, n’hésitez pas à y participer ! Nous vous appellerons à l’aide du numéro de téléphone que contient votre dossier.

LeadNow vient de publier les résultats de sondages menés dans les principales circonscriptions qui pourraient changer de couleur le 19 octobre. En voici un aperçu :

DÉBATS DES CANDIDATS DANS VOTRE CIRCONSCRIPTION
Voici une liste des débats de candidats dans toutes les circonscriptions de la Région de la capitale nationale. Plusieurs n’ont pas encore fixé de dates pour de tels débats. Nous mettrons la liste à jour à mesure que nous recevons l’information. Nous y afficherons également des liens vers des débats en ligne ou déjà enregistrés.
FAITES DU DÉMARCHAGE AVEC L’AFPC À OTTAWA
Nous avons encore besoin de bénévoles pour faire du porte-à-porte. Il est important que des membres de l’AFPC parlent directement à d’autres membres sur l’importance des prochaines élections. Nous avons déjà sillonné de nombreux quartiers à Ottawa, mais il faut poursuivre ce travail. Inscrivez-vous dès aujourd’hui. Nous vous formerons et travaillerons de près avec vous tout au cours de la campagne électorale.
PROGRAMME DE DÉVELOPPEMENT SYNDICAL : INSCRIVEZ-VOUS AVANT LE 16 OCTOBRE
Le Programme de développement syndical est une bonne occasion de vous préparer à assumer un rôle de chef de file dans votre syndicat et dans le mouvement syndical et de justice sociale en général. Voyez si ce programme est pour vous et inscrivez-vous avant le 16 octobre.
CRISE DES RÉFUGIÉS SYRIENS : LE GOUVERNEMENT DOIT RÉPONDRE ADÉQUATEMENT
