PHOENIX: UNIONS IN DISCUSSION WITH GOVERNMENT OVER REPAIRING DAMAGE

PSAC and other federal unions are in discussions with government over repairing the damage caused by Phoenix. Discussions have included the following:

• interest payments on outstanding salary, and other payments
• a consistent approach across to departments to deal with compensation claims
• a process for filing grievances related to these claims
• a fair approach to recovering salary overpayments
• ways to protect employees from adverse tax impacts resulting from financial decisions they’ve had to make as a result of missing pay

Discussions so far have been encouraging.

WE HAVE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CRA

After four years of negotiations, our bargaining team finally reached a Tentative Agreement with the CRA. Our bargaining team unanimously recommends ratification of our new agreement. Read more »


AUGUST 20: STOP ENERGY EAST

We recently learned that even Canadian Forces Base Petawawa has expressed concerns about TransCanada’s Energy East pipeline project, which will transport oil on a route that cuts through Ottawa and dozens of other communities along its way to New Brunswick.

Stop Oleoduc Outaouais is a major Quebec civil society organization that is organizing a walk from Saint-André d’Argenteuil to Ottawa to highlight the risks of the pipeline to the Ottawa river and surrounding communities. The marchers will arrive on Parliament Hill in Ottawa at 3pm on August 20. Learn more here »


SEPTEMBER 5: LABOUR DAY PARADE

Join us for the annual Labour Day Parade and celebration! The parade will start at noon from City Hall (Lisgar) to McNabb Park on Gladstone St. (corner of Bronson Avenue), where there will be a free BBQ as well as music and fun and games for kids. Hope to see you there!

PHÉNIX : L’AFPC POUSSE LE GOUVERNEMENT À RÉPARER LES POTS CASSÉS

L’AFPC et le Conseil du Trésor s’emploient à régler les difficultés financières créées par Phénix. L’AFPC et d’autres syndicats fédéraux ont récemment enjoint au gouvernement de dédommager les fonctionnaires durement touchés par la mise en œuvre de Phénix. Ils demandent au Conseil du Trésor :

• de verser l’intérêt couru sur les salaires en retard et d’offrir d’autres dédommagements
• d’adopter une seule approche pour traiter les demandes de dédommagement d’adopter
• un mécanisme de règlement des griefs liés à Phénix de recouvrer les trop-payés de manière juste
• de trouver des moyens de protéger les fonctionnaires des pénalités fiscales découlant des décisions qu’ils ont dû prendre faute de salaire.

Jusqu’à présent, nos discussions sont productives.

LE 20 AOÛT, STOPPONS ÉNERGIE EST

Récemment, la base militaire de Petawawa a émis des réserves sur les risques que comporte le projet Énergie Est de TransCanada. Le tracé de l’oléoduc passe à proximité de plusieurs communautés du pays, de l’Alberta au Nouveau-Brunswick, et traverse même directement la base de Petawawa, au nord-ouest d’Ottawa.

Stop Oleoduc Outaouais, une importante organisation de la société civile du Québec, conduira une marche de Saint-André-d’Argenteuil à Ottawa afin de sensibiliser la population aux risques d’un déversement de l’oléoduc dans la rivière des Outaouais, qui alimente la région en eau potable. Les marcheurs termineront leur trajet le 20 août, à 15 h, sur la Colline du Parlement. En savoir plus »


DÉFILÉ DE LA FÊTE DU TRAVAIL LE 5 SEPTEMBRE

Participez à la célébration de la fête du Travail et au défilé qui partira de l’hôtel de ville d’Ottawa et se rendra par la rue Gladstone jusqu’au parc McNabb (coin Bronson), où un barbecue gratuit sera offert, ainsi que de la musique et des jeux pour les enfants. Au plaisir de vous y voir !
