Honorary Doctoral Degree for Frank Habineza
Frank Habineza, founder and president of the Opposition Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and the President of the African Greens Federation (AGF) received an honorary Doctoral Degree from Bethel College, Mishawaka, Indiana, USA, during a campus ceremony at 10:00 am Friday, March 15, 2013. The degree was presented in honor of Mr. Habineza’s work in promoting democratic reforms and human rights in Rwanda and across Africa.
Venezuelan Presidential Elections
After the death of Chavez, Venezuela is once again in the midst of an electoral campaign, where the Greens; especially the Young Greens, are playing a vital role. On the 21st March Venezuelan students were marching in protest against the unfair electoral system, and in protest of the corruption within the government.
Earth Day April 22nd
International Earth Day has become increasingly important in the American continents - Bolivian, Brazilian and Venezuelan Young Greens are playing actions to raise awareness about the need to protect the fragile ecosystems that the countries have to offer.
Australian Young Greens: Ramping up Election Camaigns
The Australian Young Greens are joining their older counterparts in the mammoth task of campaigning for the Australian federal election, less than 6 months away on September 14. From letter boxing to doorknocking, creating campaign materials and recruiting volunteers, there are heaps of ways to get involved and support the local candidates, and this year looks promising!
Regular's Table: Austrian Young Greens Meetings
In quite a few cities in Austria the Young Greens meet regularly. Regulars’ tables are organized by regional groups for “oldies” but also “newbies” in an informal setting (bar/restaurant) to facilitate networking, socializing and discussing for like-minded people. International Guests at the General Assembly of the German Young Greens
On the weekend from the 22nd to the 24th of March 2013, around 400 Young Greens met at the 40th General Assembly of the German Young Greens in Dresden in order to debate, discuss and vote on different topics. Amongst them were as many international guests as probably never before. The General Assembly focused on the federal elections coming soon this year and the European elections in the following year. In the workshop "Youth in Crisis" the international guest shared and discussed their experiences with the economic and financial crisis in Europe.
French Young Greens at the World Social Forum in Tunis
In early March, the French Young Greens have launched their so far biggest campaign on the topic of energy transition. They call on young people to bring this important issue to the fore of the national debates. In the framework of their campaign, the French Young Greens also organize the workshop "Energy transition: towards a new model of development?" with ATTAC and CRID – Ritimo at the Word Social Forum in Tunis.
