Exhibition Concept –

We offer this event as an opportunity for sculptors to show and possibly sell their work at …

•  an opening reception on Friday May 29th, and

•  during Open Gallery sessions every Saturday and Sunday through June 14th

… in our 5,000 square foot gallery in Sheboygan WI.

The exhibit will open on one of SVA’s monthly Final Friday events that usually welcome 100 - 250 artists and friends.  This show will be unique, however, in that it will be the first time that an SVA exhibit will show work by non-members.

Live and lively blues music will highlight the opening Friday evening.

May is Mental Health Month and the event will be co-sponsored - and likely attended - by several health-and-wellness organizations and their practitioners and clients. A wellness fair will be conducted in an adjacent space.

Thus, the title of the event will be “Sculpture & Blues — Exercise for the Mind and Soul”.

This title is not intended to limit in any way the nature of work to be shown.  Simply show work that is thought-provoking … “exercise for the mind”.

Work Requirements:

•  Each work must be an original three dimensional creation of the submitting artist.

•  Work may be floor standing, on a pedestal, wall mounted, or ceiling suspended.

•  Size will be limited only by the characteristics of the gallery, to wit:

    —  entry opening (8 feet wide x 10 feet high),

    —  floor capacity (100 pounds per square foot), and

    —  ceiling capacity (50 pounds per attachment point)

Jurying

We are grateful for the esteemed independent jurors who have agreed to review all proposals:

•  Mr. David Ross Harper, a professional sculptor whose work has been internationally celebrated by critics, museums, and galleries in the United States and Canada.

•  Ms. Sharron Quasius, a professional sculptor whose work has been widely exhibited in the U.S. and is included in major museum and private collections.

The jurors will be on hand at the opening reception to discuss the exhibited work with artists and the public.

After Acceptance

•  When your  work is accepted, we will ask you to confirm your promise to show by sending an entry fee of $20 (per artist, not per work), your artist statement, and a jpeg image of yourself, along with your permission to use same to promote the show.

•  Work must be delivered to EBCO ArtWorks, 1201 Erie Avenue, Sheboygan WI 53081 on the evening of Wednesday May 20 or during the morning of Saturday May 23rd.  SVA is not able to receive shipments of artwork nor to ship work back to artists.

•  All work must be ready to exhibit and clearly identified by a tag (your name + title of work) affixed to the work.

•  Artists are welcome to join Installation Day, the afternoon of Saturday May 23rd, and to guide and help with installation of their pieces.  This will be part of Memorial Day weekend, so you might want to make a holiday of it by visiting the the other fine art centers, restaurants, and attractions in Sheboygan County.

•  While SVA does carry insurance on exhibited artwork to protect against a major catastrophe (fire, for instance), we are not able to warrant against less than total loss of your work.  By participating, you will agree to hold neither SVA, EBCO ArtWorks, nor event sponsors responsible for injury, property damage, or claims of any kind. That said, while your work is in our gallery, we will treat it like our own. The gallery is locked and protected by sprinklers and both fire and intrusion alarm systems.

•  Artists are welcome - and strongly encouraged - to attend the opening reception on Friday May 30th.  You will be identified and introduced as a contributing artist and will have plenty of chance to mingle with patrons and other artists, and to enjoy the free hors d’oeuvres and live music.

•  Unless you specify otherwise, each of your pieces will be offered for sale at the price you suggest.  SVA will accept payment (with additional sales tax) from customers, handle the sales taxes for you, and remit 80% of the pre-tax price to you within two weeks of the sale.

•  Unsold work must be picked up on Sunday afternoon between 3 and 5 pm June 14th.
