Please print the President's Annual Letter and keep it with your handbook. It contains information that was finalized post publication of the handbook.
Thank you. - Bev Kratzel.
Welcome to our 73rd year of operation! Our handbook is an informative reference guide for you to use throughout the year, and I want to thank our volunteers for compiling and updating the content. Some new events have been finalized post publication, and I want to include the information here so that it is readily available when you refer to your handbook. And remember, general exhibit rules given in the handbook, unless otherwise specified, apply to all venues.

This show will be juried at the November 20, 2019 membership meeting by Mick McAndrews. His biography is in the handbook; Bryn Mawr show is also being juried today.
: This show will be juried at the February 19, 2020 membership meeting by Betz Green. Betz Green’s most recent portfolio is entitled “Silverpoint Drawing and the Subtle Beauty of Decay”. This body of work combines her life-long habit of collecting natural objects with an enduring interest in mixed media. In these works she attempts to give the found relics a second purpose by creating quirky still-life portraits, while remaining true to their intriguing properties of decomposition. The slowly tarnishing silver contributes to this illusion, as do the freely torn collaged papers used in the compositions that are then completed with delicate traces of watercolor and pastel.
After attending Tyler School of Art, Betz Green became the original cover illustrator for the Montgomery County Town and Country Living Magazine and co-founded the Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists. Her work is featured in gallery and museum shows and numerous private collections. She has been commissioned for many portraits and has won numerous awards in regional, national and international shows including the Gold and Silver Medals at the Audubon Artist Inc. show in NYC. Betz resides just outside Philadelphia with her artist husband, a few chickens and too many gardens.
: This show will be juried at the April 15, 2020 membership meeting by Teresa DeSeve. Teresa DeSeve is an artist whose focus for more than a decade has been on the human figure. While she began as an oil painter, Teresa explored pastels, and found them to be the expressive medium of choice. She attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and earned a BFA from Rosemont College. Teresa is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, a Signature Member of the PWCS, and a Crest Medal honoree. She has been featured in The Pastel Journal, and Pastelgram. Teresa teaches the pastel medium at The Wayne Art Center, and the Norristown Art League, and exhibits her work in National Shows.
: Besides our new permanent venue at Penn Med at Bala Cynwyd
, we have the opportunity to exhibit at Bryn Mawr Hospital
, Bodine Lobby, from January 4, 2020 – April 25, 2020. And Sage Restaurant
is an exciting venue as well. I am hoping this turns out to be a permanent venue, but we will have to wait and see how it goes. The Board Invitational Show at Sage will run from Oct. 7 – Feb. 3, 2020. It’s a lovely restaurant and I hope to eat there once our exhibit is installed – good food and good art all in one place!
: Our program for next year is quite diverse. We have enlisted artists who specialize in different media for our demonstrations
so that there is something for everyone to enjoy. However, it’s always a good idea to venture out of our comfort zone and try new things.
Members can send information about art happenings that would be participatory for our members to our webmaster Daria Nawrocki at email@example.com
and postings for our Facebook page reflecting personal happenings in the art world to Radhika Srinivas at firstname.lastname@example.org
There is a member gallery on our website
that can include a link to your website or Facebook page. Also, check out the calendar and Plein Air events
that are included on the web site. It’s also fun to check out photos from demos/workshops and special events as well.
In 2020 our art sale
is scheduled for March 26-29 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Wayne. Please also consider attending our annual luncheon
on May 15 at Downingtown County Club and our bus trip
, to be determined.
Time and Day Change: Please note the change in days and times for our meetings and workshops in the handbook
. We are going back to the general meeting times of 1 – 3 pm; however, we will be meeting on the third Wednesday
of the month and the workshop will be on the following Monday
at Paoli Presbyterian Church.
Hopefully I have gotten everything right here! DVAL is a vibrant organization and there is a lot going on – please join us in participating in these events. By doing so you meet so many wonderful people and you indulge both your love of art and further your own talents in creating it.
