March 13, 2020

Dear ISL Families:

We continue to monitor and follow the guidance from the CDC, LA Dept of Health, and local health officials on their recommendations to keep the public safe during COVID-19. Thank you for your assistance during this time of uncertainty as we continue to take preventative measures to ensure the health of our students and staff and the continuation of our academic program.

We want to share some of the actions we have taken and proactive decisions we have made.

At our campuses, we are taking the following preventative measures:

  • Regularly disinfect classrooms and restrooms and ensure classrooms and restrooms remain fully stocked with soap

  • Providing CDC guidelines and instructions to our ISL community

  • Educating our students about proper hand-washing techniques

  • Reminding students and staff to cover their mouths with their elbows/sleeves when coughing or sneezing, and avoid touching their faces.

In an abundance of caution and to stay proactive in our response, we have made the following decisions:

  • We are monitoring absences daily; families and staff are asked to be specific about the reason for absences.

  • Before and After Care programs continue operating until further notice.

  • School field trips are suspended.

  • All nonessential assemblies (field trips, school dances, campus activities, etc.), are suspended as of March 13, 2020. This includes ISL Dixon and Westbank Campus Grandparent’s Day.

  • ISL Uptown Campus extracurricular sports are cancelled.

  • ISL Family Fun Night at City Park is postponed. Additional information regarding the event will be sent at a later date.

  • Please review the travel information distributed on March 12, 2020.

    • If a current student or staff member has recently traveled (or plans to travel) to a destination on the CDC’s risk assessed list OR has come into contact with someone who has, we are requesting that these students and staff wait for the 14-day incubation period to expire before returning to school or work.

  • We request that our ISL Families thoughtfully consider any future travel plans and communicate with the Campus Principal/Nurse.

Progress Report Conferences scheduled Monday, March 16, 2020 are cancelled. We truly believe this is an important opportunity for families to meet with teachers to discuss student progress and well being. However, in light of the recent events we will cancel and teachers will reach out to families with information about how and when these meetings can take place.

We receive news and updates often as this is a fluid situation. It is important to note that our goal is to keep school open, as long as health officials advise. We understand the tremendous disruption school closure would cause to our parents, guardians, students, and families. Any closure will be made in-line with the CDC’s guidance and recommendations from local and state health agencies, in conjunction with NOLA PS. Please note:  It is possible that we would have short notice prior to school closure.

In preparation for a possible school closure we are taking the following steps:

  1. Please click here to complete an IT survey to families. This will help our administration  determine IT resources available to ISL families as we prepare for possible school closure.

  2. We are working to ensure that students who receive school meals will continue to do so.

The individual listed as Primary Contact in our database will receive any PowerAlert messages sent by ISL. Please make sure ISL has your most up to date information or update/confirm the contact information for the Primary Contact so that you are receiving our alerts and information immediately in case of an emergency.

  • All emergency messages are sent by PowerAlert (email, call, and/or text message). These PowerAlert messages and any updates/important information will be posted on the web site under under “Important Information” on the homepage, as well as under the “Head of School Corner”.

To update your contact information, stop by your campus front office and fill out an “Update Contact Information Form”. You can also access this form online by clicking here.
