Open Doors Report 2020*

* The data on international students is from 2019/20 and the information on study abroad is from 2018/19.  The data on study abroad lags one year behind the information on the international students due to the time it takes them to receive academic credit at their US institutions.

Although there will be a more complete snapshot next year of how Covid-19 will have impacted international education trends, numbers from Latin American students going to study to the USA have remained relatively steady in the past year, with an overall slight decline, but with sustained growth from Costa Rica, Peru and Brazil. On the other hand, the number of US students studying abroad in Latin America have generally declined, notably to Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica. Take a look at Open Doors® for more insights on Latin America and the Caribbean!

Open Doors®, supported by a grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, is a comprehensive information resource on international students and scholars studying or teaching at higher education institutions in the United States, and U.S. students studying abroad for academic credit at their home colleges or universities. The NYU Abu Dhabi Team Adapts to the New Normal

Due to the pandemic, the NYU Abu Dhabi LAC Team adjusted all regional student outreach for the 2020-2021 academic cycle to be virtual. This allowed the team to expand their reach to more schools than previous years in order to support students from Latin America and the Caribbean who are interested in applying to NYUAD. In addition to virtual school visits, the team hosted webinars focused on the University and the application process. The team of three Outreach Officers hosted over 175 events this semester compared to eight events in Fall 2019. For the early decision deadline, 11 students have been admitted to NYUAD from the region this year so far. Moving into the spring semester, outreach will continue to be virtual.
