An auto-tuned homage to the late, great Fred Rogers of Mr Rogers Neighborhood – totally captivated the American public this week. As of this writing, Garden of the Mind, created by Symphony of Science’s John D. Boswell for PBS Digital Studios, has had over 4.6 million views. The beloved Rogers comes alive again with his gentle exhortations for us to “be curious” and “try many things” in this video just as he did for 32 years on his television show. You just can’t watch Garden of the Mind without smiling – a link to the video is our first Tweet of the Week below.
Smiles are what this week’s BOM is all about. We’re starting off with Lynn Moor’s love-filled interpretations of works from the Permanent Collection of the New York Children’s Museum in “Mosaics That Make Us Smile.” Our second feature, a “news flash” about the discovery of Roman mosaics in Gloucester Massachusetts is a bit of a “humbug” which we hope will illicit a smile. Finally, we are featuring an exhibit by Mexican artist Aida Valencia whose work is nothing if not exuberant, curious and just plain happy.
Happy Father’s Day! – Nancie
