New Outdoor Leadership Course
TSB TOPEC runs the Level 3 NZ Certificate in Outdoor Experiences (40 credits) and the new Level 4 NZ Certificate in Outdoor Leadership (60 credits) tertiary courses. The Level 4 Outdoor Leadership Course can also be combined with WITT’s Diploma in Business.
What will I learn?
Each course has a focus on outdoor pursuit skill training alongside leadership and ‘soft’ skill personal development. You will learn about planning, preparing and leading groups in the outdoors, managing risk to enable safe but challenging experiences, interpreting weather, bush survival and navigation, environmental sustainability, abseiling, climbing and caving, rafting and kayaking skills. Your confidence will grow and your people management will improve.
What careers can it lead to?
Start your journey in this exciting industry and benefit from an active outdoors career that can lead to a career in adventure tourism, community health, education, outdoor instruction and guiding, the defence force or police, conservation and restoration, paramedic and search and rescue.
Who should apply?
At school, just left or been in the workforce for a while – we want you! Both courses are a great opportunity to stay local, study and train either full time or while still working or at school. Our industry-experienced tutors will help you develop and challenge yourself while gaining a relevant leadership qualification.
The Level 3 Outdoor Experiences Course means studying at TSB TOPEC two days per week over 30 weeks, starting late February and mid-year.

The Level 4 NZ Certificate in Outdoor Leadership can be studied part or full time and can also be combined with WITT’s NZ Diploma in Business Level 5 (Leadership).
