There is no doubt that the older you get the faster time slips by and it seems with less than the blink of an eye it's already March and officially the start of Autumn.
I'm a power boater and while I enjoy getting out on a sail boat occasionally, I must admit, I like the idea of just getting on board, turning a key and heading off. Of course, I always check the weather beforehand, but for me, wind speed and direction is all about staying safe, and of course being able to get in and out of my berth, so the less wind, the better as far as I'm concerned.
I'm fortunate too in that my partner loves boating as much as I do, so it's something we enjoy doing together, often with friends on board, in fact we seem to entertain on our boat more so than we do at home these days. But boats are like that, especially so if you're on a marina, the social aspect of boating seems to bring out the best in people. But coming back to Autumn, it's my favourite boating time of the year, not only because we still get great weather, but we don't seem to get as much of the wind as we do in summer.
And while today is still only Wednesday, I'm already looking forward to the weekend. With the Air Show on in Melbourne over the weekend and a forecast 10-15kn south easterly on Port Phillip, we're thinking we might head out across the bay, drop the pick off Avalon Airfield, kick back with some nice food and refreshments and watch an awesome display. That's Autumn, that's boating!
