"We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained;
perplexed, but not driven to despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed."
2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Finding Perseverance during this Pandemic

   For some, we have learned to excel at perseverance these past few months. For others, we are being offered plenty of chances to get better at it.

   Educations are being disrupted, celebrations postponed, employment altered, lives lost, futures questioned - all over the world, in countries from America to Zambia. What we also see, though, is hope, courage, love, perseverance - all over the world.

   There is a quote from Mattie that has been popping up on our search feeds - from all over the world - America to yes, Zambia!
“Unity is strength…
when there is teamwork and collaborations,
wonderful things can be achieved.”

   This young boy, who died 16 years ago at age 13, still captures the imagination, heart and spirit of young and old - all over the world.  Mattie's spirit perseveres.  Mattie, when he was here with us on earth, persevered.

   Mattie's messages, and his way of living, inspired by his deep connection with God, can be summed up his last spoken word, “Yes!”

   As we search for ways to persevere and say "Yes," the Guild continues preparations for a simple yet accessible way for us all - from America to Zambia - to join together to remember Mattie on the anniversary of his death.

   Mattie died June 22, 2004. We will honor Mattie with a Mass that will be available on YouTube and will be ASL interpreted. We are finalizing these revised plans and will send out final details soon.

   In the meantime, save Monday, June 22, 2020 as a day to remember a hope-filled and faith-filled boy who said "Yes."

Reflections & Statements on Mattie

   A cause for sainthood in the Catholic Church rests on the idea that the individual has lived a life of heroic virtues, namely pursuing or choosing the good in difficult circumstances.

   The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Guild welcomes reflections and statements on Mattie from people of all ages, abilities, nationalities, and faiths.

   Those who directly knew Mattie are asked to share their specific remembrances of how he lived a holy life.

   Those who knew or know of Mattie through his media appearances, writings, or public ministry are invited to share their experience of his holiness.

   A flyer offering details on how to write and submit a reflection or statement is linked here.
