Celebrating Mattie's Life & Purpose

"Mattie was not an accident.
He was not a mistake.
He was a spirit meant to be."

~ Jeni Stepanek, PhD

The Guild invites all our friends - from America to Zambia - to join us in a simple celebration of Mass online for Mattie at 9:00 am ET on Monday, June 22, the 16th anniversary of Mattie's death.

We are so happy to have our friends in the Campus Ministry Office at The Catholic University of America offer us a home for this Mass as parishes in our area remain closed due to pandemic restrictions.

Fr. Jude DeAngelo, OFM Conv, will celebrate Mass and we thank him.

Mass will be available exclusively on the Campus Ministry's Facebook page: https://bit.ly/2UkFOfa

As we prepare to celebrate Mattie's life, let us remember his call to find our own Heartsong. Just as God formed us, He gave us a Heartsong; our reason for being.

What is your Heartsong? How do you give of yourself?

At the age of 3, Mattie began sharing his Heartsongs. He believed that his purpose was to be a “messenger” — shaping with words what God placed in his heart for the good of our world.

Mattie's Heartsongs were messages of peace, which is so needed in the world especially now.  Mattie's Mom, Jeni, spoke to the students at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Washington DC earlier this year and she spoke of Mattie's Heartsong.  She said that peace is not about agreeing with others. It is about being with others.

Mattie believed it was important for people to “get to know our neighbors, around the block and around the world.”  As a spokesperson for disability and peace organizations and as a catechist in his parish CCD program, Mattie became a source of hope and peace for people of many ages and abilities and aspirations, bringing diverse global neighbors together in prayer and purpose.

As Mattie wrote:
"Hope is real.
Peace is possible.
Life is worthy.
Prayer is powerful."
Watch Jeni Stepanek tonight Thursday June 11 at 8:00 pm ET. She will talk about Mattie with Raymond Arroyo on EWTN's "The World Over."
The show repeats tomorrow Friday June 12 at 1:00 am ET and 9:30 am ET, and again on Monday June 15 at 10:00 pm ET.
A cause for sainthood in the Catholic Church rests on the idea that the individual has lived a life of heroic virtues, namely pursuing or choosing the good in difficult circumstances.

The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Guild welcomes reflections and statements on Mattie from people of all ages, abilities, nationalities, and faiths.  Here is a link to our flyer offering details on how to write and submit a reflection or statement.

The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Guild, a not-for-profit corporation, was created to promote the Cause for Canonization of Matthew Joseph Thaddeus Stepanek.  The Guild's mission is to share Mattie’s life of heroic virtue, faith in God, and to inspire others in the Catholic faith. Our primary role is to further awareness and to gather information that assists Mattie's Cause in moving forward.  A secondary role of the Guild is to secure funds in support of the Cause to cover the costs of producing materials, including those that will support the canonical requirements.

Won't you prayerfully consider a contribution to Mattie's Guild at this time? Your gift will assist us in advancing his Cause and his message that life is worthy, hope is real, and that peace is possible.
