The Louisville Metro Council has approved new controls over how a property owner may use their home or condo as a short term rental (any rental for a period of less than 30 days).  A few bullet points here:
  • There is a minimum distance of 600 ft required between homes used as a Short Term Rental (STR) when the properties ARE NOT primary residences.
  • A Conditional Use Permit (CUP), approved at a public hearing,  is required for non-primary residence properties.
  • Annual registration fee for all STR is $100.
  • STR are not allowed in many areas such as: Anchorage, St. Matthews, Lyndon and more.
  • Maximum occupancy is # beds x2+2 (example 2 beds= 6 maximum guests)
  • Even if you rent your home out once or twice per year (Derby etc), registration is required.

In home fire safety is important! Read below for tips to keep your family safe.
Even though the video above is comical (and Howell is a Louisvillian), fire safety is serious business.

One of our agents recently experienced a fire in his home. Fortunately, his family had a fire extinguisher at the ready and they were able to put out the fire before it caused major damage. As he shared his story during our office meeting, we agreed that we need to educate our family, clients and friends (renters and home owners alike) about the value of having a fire extinguisher on hand.

Having fire extinguishers and working smoke detectors on every level of your home are two easy ways to arm yourself against potential disaster.

There are many types of fires: kitchen (grease/fat), electrical, paint/gas etc. Each one is in its own class rating based on the way the fire is created and burns (A,B,C,D,K). Due to this, there are different chemicals use to extinguish a fire: Dry powder, wet chemical, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water and foam.

It is worth the time to learn the different fire types and which extinguisher you want to have on hand in the event of fire in your home.
