This Sunday at SDFC
This Sunday is New Student Orientation (NSO) Sunday at SDFC! We will be joined by hundreds of new PLNU students during our unified worship service in Brown Chapel at 10:30am. We will also have donuts and coffee available for both the new students as well as members of our congregation from 10-10:30am prior to the service. We invite you to join us in welcoming the new students to campus and inviting them to get involved here at SDFC!

At this time we are encouraging the use of masks and face coverings indoors, regardless of vaccination status, in an effort to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19 and its variants. If gathering in-person isn't right for you at this time, we invite you to stay connected via our online options. The sermon from our worship service will be available in podcast format on our church website,, 1-2 days after the service.
Worship Update
Beginning September 5th, we will return to two Sunday morning worship services: The Classic service will meet in the Ellipse Chapel and the Contemporary service will meet in Brown. Both of these services will meet at 10:30am, and all Sunday schools will meet at 9:00 am.
We will do this for a trial period of 13 weeks, which will conclude on November 28th. During December, we will have unified services and provide opportunities for feedback regarding our fall services.

Thank you to those who provided feedback to help us shape this plan for our Sunday morning worship services moving forward. We are grateful to be on this journey with you!
In Our Prayers...
  • Jaclyn Francis: Jaclyn has asked for prayers on behalf of her best friend, Hannah, and her mom Sheila Whiteford, who is fighting both brain cancer and MS, and is now hospitalized with COVID-19.
  • Victor & Judi Labenske: Victor & Judi ask that you pray for PLNU and all schools returning for the Fall - for wisdom and stamina for students, teachers, support staff and administrators.
  • Afghanistan: The upsetting news from Afghanistan over the last couple weeks has caused many in our congregation to ask, "what can I do to help?". Fortunately, there are many organizations actively assisting our Afghan brothers and sisters in a variety of ways. Locally, Jewish Family Service (JFS) is helping refugees resettle here in San Diego.

There are a couple ways that we can participate. Donating funds to JFS helps them buy expensive items such as furniture, obtain gift cards to halal grocery stores, and purchase other necessary items for people who have fled with so few material possessions. If you feel called to volunteer, you can help JFS in their ongoing work to find housing for refugees, deliver furniture, and help people navigate a new city. You can read more details about these opportunities here:

Separately, if you operate an Airbnb, that company has a program where you can temporarily house refugees. You can find more information about that here:
If you have a prayer request you would like to share, either privately with the church staff or with the SDFC community, please contact the church office at or (619) 849-3100.
If you would rather not receive these emails, simply reply
“Thanks, but no thanks” and they will stop coming your way.
