Message from Pastor Russ
Grief Support
"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope." (1 Thess. 4:13)
One thing I have learned through my own journey of grief, and in counseling other believers who have walked through the valley of the shadow of death, is that we do not travel that road alone. As Paul writes, we do grieve, but we grieve with hope. That makes all the difference.

A new grief support group begins on Monday, May 9. Our thanks to Sandy Ische for facilitating this group, and to Jim Gilson for opening his home. The group will meet weekly from 6:30-8pm. If you are in the midst of the grieving process, we pray that this group will provide the strength we all need to grieve with hope in Jesus.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Sandy via email at for more information.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Russ

Praying Our Way to Pentecost
Half-Million Mobilization Prayer Journal
From now through Pentecost, Nazarenes across the USA/Canada region will join together in reading a Prayer Journal and listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit in response. We are praying for a great outpouring of God’s Spirit leading up to and including Pentecost Sunday (June 5, 2022).

Below are ways for you to use the Praying Our Way to Pentecost Prayer Journal on your phone or tablet.
  1. Search for “Half-Million Mobilization” on Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Set notifications in the app so you get a daily notification for each devotional.
  3. Create a login so you can save notes from your time in prayer.
You can also go to for a web-based version of the prayer journal.
Thank you for your commitment to seek God’s will for the Church of the Nazarene in USA/Canada.
What will the Spirit say to you during these 36 days? We want to know!

To that end, the USA/Canada Regional Office has provided a prayer response survey to capture what you hear the Spirit saying. You can find the link at
In Our Prayers...
  • Denny & Betty Klaseus: Denny and Betty would appreciate your prayers for their granddaughter, Emerald, who has had a lingering cough for months, as doctors try to diagnose the probable cause.
  • Michelle Groves: Michelle asks for prayers over all the PLNU students this week as they finish finals and begin their summer break!

If you have a prayer request you would like to share with the church staff the SDFC community, please contact the church office at or (619) 849-3100.
If you would rather not receive these emails, simply reply
“Thanks, but no thanks” and they will stop coming your way.
