Themes: 2 Foundries and a Mega Marketplace

Want to learn more about WordPress themes and where to find ones that are well made and reliable? Join us for our next WordPress Meetup where panelists will present two major theme foundries: Studio Press (maker of Genesis themes and the Genesis framework) and WooThemes as well as the amazing ThemeForest — one of the largest marketplaces on the web for many types of themes and designs.

Often users and developers work with themes from one major source, such as Genesis and Studio Press, Woo Themes, Elegant Themes, Theme Fuse and/or Themify. Some developers will also design and code their own "custom themes" from scratch — often starting with a design created in Photoshop. Custom themes are typically tailored for a specific client's needs. A third option uses a hybrid approach: a "skeleton theme" is selected (there are several good ones available online) and working with the theme's existing code, the developer builds out and extends the site and its theme by adding code, styles and design elements.

So where does a WordPress user start?
