Safe Place Ministries provides biblically based training, truth and support to those impacted by abuse. Christ was not afraid to enter into the most challenging brokenness and with that confidence, neither are we.

From the Director

We believe in a God who still works miracles. As our society increases in understanding of adverse childhood experiences and the traumatic events happening around us, the more unsettled we can feel about our future. But we need to remember that even though something is new to us, nothing has changed for God. He already knows how our minds and bodies operate and how they heal.

Whenever I hear something that at first seems unsurmountable, I say, “But, God…”

God promises to renew our mind and restore our soul. I have seen him do it many times. I have experienced it myself.

If you find yourself faced with a situation that seems hopeless, remember that what is impossible for us is possible for God.

“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17

Without a Formula

When you go to a medical practitioner with a symptom, it feels satisfying to receive a diagnosis. The hope is that the doctor can look on his chart for the corresponding solution. We want the medicine and the answer to be formulaic and tidy.

Unfortunately, it usually isn’t that simple. For relationships and emotions, it almost never is. Here at Safe Place, we avoid using terms to define situations. Words like “Codependent” can lead people to assume there is a formula if there is a label. Labels also become overused to the point they are a common expression. This leads to misunderstandings about the nuances of the situation.

Formulas are not wrong. It is beneficial to have processes in some areas of your life. But we need to realize that we have access to the author of life, God.

A situation that looks like codependency to an outsider’s understanding could be God’s call to mercy for the participant.

The best solution is to merge the knowledge of operations and processes with the unique guidance of the Holy Spirit.
