Safe Place Ministries provides biblically based training, truth and support to those impacted by abuse. Christ was not afraid to enter into the most challenging brokenness and with that confidence, neither are we.

Executive Director's Corner

Happy Season of Thankfulness!
This is not the kind of communication you are used to receiving from Safe Place in November!
The last few years we have used this month to fund raise and allow you to partner with us in the rebuilding of lives.
This year I want to take this opportunity to personally express how grateful we are for the love and support given to this ministry.  As a staff, we are daily reminded of God’s faithfulness and provision and I appreciate the chance to pass that reminder onto you.
Recently, we received this beautiful note from a longtime client and friend, “Dear Women, I wanted to remind you again, of the miracle of my recovery and thriving in large part due to your ministry. I do not forget you…”
In whatever way God has touched your life through this ministry please know what a privilege it is to serve alongside you.
With gratitude,

And so it begins…the season of gratitude and indigestion-not necessarily food induced! For some this is a precious time, but for many this is a time of loss, anxiety and heartache!  Nevertheless, there are times in life we must go through the motions despite our desire to do otherwise.  Below are some strategies to help you navigate the holiday.

  • PREPARE not only your turkey, but yourself!  This does not mean obsessing about every scenario that could occur, but rather speaking truth to yourself about what might occur and developing a game plan prior to the event.  What does this mean?  God calls us to TRUTH-not to feeling GOOD about the TRUTH!  We can only prepare for what we can control ourselves.  We do not control the behavior of others.  This truth can make us feel powerless.  Strategy #1 is to remember even if you don’t know what to do you can always determine ahead of time what you’re NOT going to do! Talk with a trusted friend to help you get this list on paper.
  • PARTICIPATE in whatever ways you can!  If you find yourself consistently unable to pull off  the meaningful moments represented in the magazine, do what you can to join in where possible.  Although you can observe interactions without having to jump in or fix, it’s helpful to be somewhat equipped with a few tools of your own. Have some “conversations starter” questions available when the subject needs to change and rely on those trusty “one liners” to get you through the crazy.  Examples include Nevertheless, That’ something to consider, and I’ll think/pray about it, and are all quick responses that can help diffuse potential conflict.
  • PRACTICE.  In times of high stress most of us default to what we are used to doing!  Speak the phrases, one liners, and tone of voice you prefer to use prior to the event.  Will you feel foolish?  Maybe, but it’s better than being foolish in the moment!
  • PRAY differently.  How often do we find ourselves asking the Father to change the other person(s) behavior?  The truth is that all of us have the ability to choose whether we allow God to work in our lives and sometimes we simply do not want to be made well.  That being said, God promises to give wisdom to those who ask for it (James 1:5) and HE will help you know how to love wisely.
Although we have chosen to forgo our formal Thanksgiving fundraising, donations are greatly appreciated. Items such as gift cards, water bottles, and cleaning/paper supplies are always welcome.
