SWI Ratings Report - Value up 12%

SWI QuickPicks Ratings Report

Portfolio Value Up 12 %
August 13, 2015

A rough earnings week again. I hope you have survived or maybe even thrived? Our QuickPicks portfolio has survived reasonably well and is still up 12%.

One word of advise on my favorite SWI Portfolio stock: TESLA. I do believe that the stock's recent drop was a knee jerk reaction to the lower revenue guidance
for 2016 in the company's earnings report. But, let's face it, Tesla DOES NOT HAVE A DEMAND PROBLEM. It may have a short term production capacity problem, but once that has been overcome, the stock will continue to soar. This is supported by the fact that in today's overall down market the stock still rose; and despite the fact that the company just announced a $500 Million Secondary Offering. A secondary offering typically puts pressure on the share price, but in Tesla's case it seems the market understands that this new capital is allocated for EXPANSION. It is a smart move to raise additional working capital when the stock trades high. If anything, Elon Musk knows how to work the market for the benefit of his company and its shareholders.

An interesting tidbit: Tesla's production trend (plan) for the next few years is on par with the Ford Model T trend for that same time period and is actually pushing to overtake Nissan Motors as the automotive history's biggest electric car manufacturer.

This week we are only initiating one new stock, First Solar, Inc.(FSLR)

First Solar, Inc. provides solar energy solutions worldwide. The company operates through two segments, Components and Systems. The Components segment designs, manufactures, and sells solar modules that convert sunlight into electricity. This segment manufactures cadmium telluride and crystalline silicon modules for project developers and system integrators, as well as owners and operators of photovoltaic (PV) solar power systems. The Systems segment provides turn-key PV solar power systems or solar solutions, such as project development; engineering, procurement, and construction; operating and maintenance; and project finance services to investor owned utilities, independent power developers and producers, commercial and industrial companies, and PV solar power system owners. First Solar, Inc. has strategic alliance with Caterpillar Inc. to develop an integrated photovoltaic solar solution for microgrid applications. The company was formerly known as First Solar Holdings, Inc. and changed its name to First Solar, Inc. in 2006. First Solar, Inc. was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Tempe, Arizona.

Note: We deliberately do not use the terms "buy", "hold" or "sell", but instead use "neutral", "upgrade" and "downgrade" in our QuickPicks list. This is based on our philosophy that our QuickPicks list does not promote the buying and selling of specific stocks, but wants to assist with your overall investment decision and provide rational guidance.  Please note the stocks that we have dropped when we adjusted the portfolio.

Remember, in addition to our own research for our QuickPicks section, we pour over charts, third party analyst opinions and reports from such firms and individuals that we respect, in order to reach as much of a market consensus as possible. Naturally, on occasion the investment thesis for certain picks may break down. When that happens, we try and let you know as quickly as possible. Again, do not rely on our guidance alone, but exercise your own due diligence and stick to your trading plan.
