Welcome to the Newest Member of the Berkey Family
We wish to congratulate Anna and Jaron and are pleased to welcome Theodore Kennel. He arrived on Sunday, August 18th at 2:06 p.m. weighing 9 pounds, 3 ounces. Other than exhaustion, everyone is doing just great. The induction that Anna had shared about the previous Sunday failed and they had been scheduled for a second try Sunday morning. Thankfully, labor started on its own at midnight. Thank you for all the notes of encouragement and prayers.
Ladies Lunch Bunch
The Ladies Lunch Bunch will meet at the Rolling Scones at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday September 5th. Please RSVP to Laverne
by Tuesday, September 3. What is Ladies Lunch Bunch? We meet for lunch on the first Thursday of the Month, at different locations, and often share about what is going on in our lives. This has been a good way to become better acquainted. It is also a place where we can share prayer concerns. This year we have also included other gatherings, working on making school kit bags, visiting Calendar Gardens in New Paris and checking out some wildflowers on the way. In August we were at Reith Center to watch the birds together. We are open to other suggestions for activities to share and places to eat. Most of us have grey hair, but this is not a requirement! All ladies are welcome to join us to come together and enjoy good fellowship.

Berkey Avenue Small Groups
Small groups are an important part of our life together as a congregation. They help us to deepen our relationships with each other and with God. In addition to the traditional, intergenerational groups that currently exist, we would like to offer small groups formed around a theme, eg. book club, dinner and a movie, biking, walking, food justice, etc. What is it that you like to do that offers you spiritual nurture, and might lend itself to a group experience? Would you be willing to offer leadership, either alone or with someone else? Please speak to one of the Small Group Co-ordinating Committee members: Jan Shetler, Ron Good, Lois Mast or Marilyn Rudy-Froese.

Update From Miriam Augsburger
I have safely made the transition from Goshen to my apartment in Iowa City! I had great help on both ends to pack and unpack the U-Haul. (Thanks again to my small group!) My parents stayed for 2 days, so we were able to get everything unpacked and pictures hung. Now I'm starting to ease into University life with various orientations and exams. Classes start on Monday August 26th. Thanks for your continued prayers!

Observing Peace Sunday
Last May the Peace Commission of Mennonite World Conference (MWC) sent out the following communication: We are writing to invite you and your congregation to observe Peace Sunday together with brothers and sisters in the global Anabaptist church family on September 22, 2013. Read the full letter. As we all know, maintaining our Anabaptist peace witness requires constant attention. In this regard, Peace Sunday can be one important stepping stone in helping us hone what to us is an essential part of the way and message of Jesus. MWC has also provided some suggestions for celebrating peace (for 2012, which may be adapted for 2013).
