Thank You

Thank youWe want to say a huge thank you to all of you for your loving support of our Peruvian Cookbook. The Ayacuchan community, where both of us did voluntary service, was unbelievably welcoming to both of us and we are so happy to be able to give back to them. We sold nearly 200 cookbooks and thus we will be donating over $1,000. Because of the overwhelming support we decided to split the donations between the comedor, the soup kitchen where Gretchen volunteered, as well as the hogar, an orphanage where another student volunteered. You are all a blessing in our lives and we are forever grateful for your support. If you have any feedback or suggestions on the recipes we'd love to hear them. If you would like to order more for extra Christmas gifts or anything, let us know. Thanks!

College Meals

college mealsOver the years, Berkey has been a wonderful, welcoming church home for many college/young adult students. One of the highlights for the students is having a meal each Sunday after church. This allows them to get to know our church family in a more informal setting and learn to know a wider range of people. You don’t need to make anything fancy – just a simple meal of food you enjoy making. You can host in your home or at the church, using the church kitchen. You may sign up individually, with someone else or as a small group. You can go online directly to sign up for a meal (username: students and password: bamf) or contact Ruth Roth.

Getting to Know

Anita Mounsithiraj

Getting to know

I grew up the first daughter of Bud and Romaine Stuckey in Archbold, Ohio.  My family spent many hours traveling and camping together. Weekends were always family time with cousins or grandparents. I would often ride my bike with my dad over to visit Aunt Jean (Eleanor Nafziger) and Uncle Gerald in the summer evenings.  My mom's family in Pennsylvania is extensive and first cousins come by the dozens. Diane Beam is one of them. We spent many summers in the mountains of PA. Attending Lockport Mennonite Church, I was one of many who ended up going to Goshen College. There I earned a B.A. in elementary education.  On a whim I interviewed with the principals from Academia Menonita and ended up teaching in Puerto Rico the year following college. I continued on in education when I returned to the states, receiving my special education degree and then later my science degree. Somehow I squeezed in about 6 years of coaching swim with the NASA team in Middlebury. I have taught science now for many years at Middlebury Community Schools. When life finally slowed down a bit, I up and moved to the place where the grass was greener, Portland,Oregon. I taught for a year in the farming community of Aurora and soon spent hours talking on the phone with this guy with an accent who lived back in Goshen. One year away was enough. Tavi and I were married a year after that, the summer of 2000. Time has flown since! Dteban came to us in a whirlwind in 2008 and we couldn't be more blessed. I often feel truly blessed. We have so much to be thankful for simply living where we do and being part of a caring community at Berkey Avenue and the city of Goshen. I really do believe that God blesses us in many ways both extremely small and grander than our imaginations.

Whether you are new or a charter member, we are continually learning to know each other and we want to get to know you more. It can be very simple, your name, what you do for a living and what you are interested in. You can view our newsletter archive for some examples. Interested in being featured? Let us know!
