Model School is collecting used shoes until Friday, October 16. Brenda Grimes' class has brought in around 70 pairs of shoes and is one of the front runners to earning a pizza party! If anyone has some shoes to donate, please put them in a box near the mailboxes for collection and Brenda will take them to school.
Thank you very much for the Berkey Avenue Mennonite Church contribution of $280.05 to this year's My Coins Count drive! Congregations have raised over $43,000 this year. In addition we have a $60,000 donation which brings the total to approximately $103,000. All of this money will go toward feeding hungry families through MCC. Children will be healthier because of the fresh vegetables from their family gardens in Congo, Syrian refugee families will have the food they need so they don't need to risk dangerous journeys across open waters, families in Gaza will have the food needed to survive this winter, farmers in Zimbabwe are getting drought resistant seeds so they can harvest good crops even in challenging climate conditions. Thank you again for your generosity and creativity in sharing the love of Christ around the world through Mennonite Central Committee, by providing food for the hungry through My Coins Count.

Fish Fry at Bethany: Bethany Christian High School’s Senior Class Fish Fry on Friday, Oct. 30, is less than two weeks away! Come between the hours of 4:30 and 8 p.m. for an evening of fellowship, homemade pie, and all the fish you can eat. Tickets are available from all Bethany seniors or at the door. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children in grades 1-6. Preschool age is free. Carryout is also available with adult tickets only.

Zorá’s distinguished career as a string quartet includes being selected for the Chamber Music Residency at Banff Centre and Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, performing at the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Germany, and being named the Graduate Quartet in Residence at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Caregiver’s Navigation is a special event designed to help provide resources and education for caregivers. Joan is now in Constanza, DR serving a 3 year mission term. Joan is the nurse for four residential orphanage homes and the River in the Desert Christian School. MDC Project Promise
The Project Promise MDC Goldenrod Chicken BBQ fundraiser will be on Thursday, October 15 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Fairhaven Amish Mennonite Church. Fairhaven is located 5½ miles east of Goshen on the north side of State Road 4 (13513 Indiana 4, Middlebury). Enjoy High’s chicken with potato, broccoli, bacon bits, sour cream, and home-made pie (fruit cups for carry-out orders). The suggested donation is $10 for the dine-in or carry-out meal. Leaders from Nazareth Hospital EMMS, the oldest hospital in the modern State of Israel, will be featured in an informational public presentation on Monday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship. Dr. Bishara Bisharat, head of Nazareth Hospital EMMS, and Ms. Samar Mansour-Samawi, Director of Public Relations, will lead in the discussion to which the public is invited. Camerata choir concert
Our first concert of the year, Flights of Fancy
, includes works from the Renaissance through the modern period that center on the themes of flight, heaven, and angels. The centerpiece is “Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine” by the wildly popular composer Eric Whitacre. Combining Renaissance and modern compositional styles, this piece will be accompanied by images of Da Vinci’s fantastical designs of his flying machines. Our highly eclectic program also includes selections from Haydn’sThe Creation, spirituals by Dawson and DeCormier, an anthem from Lady Diana’s funeral, bluegrass selections accompanied by traditional instruments, a Beatles tune, and more. Children’s Choir opportunity
Mennonite Youth Choir Festival would like to invite children in grades 3-9 to join in a weekend of singing, March 5 - 6, 2016, in Goshen. The church has a long and deep tradition of praising God through singing. In order for this to continue it is up to parents and the faith community around them to encourage their children with opportunities that develop a love for music in worship. Youth of all denominations are encouraged to participate. 2016 festival dates are as follows: practice on Saturday, March 5, 2016; concert performance on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 2 p.m. (free and open to the public. All children from Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and beyond who love to sing—grades 3 through 9. The cost per Child is $35 early registration (ends November 1), $45 regular registration.
