Karla MinterWelcome to Karla Minter our preacher/storyteller. Karla is a Church Relations Associate for Mennonite Mission Network. Her role is to help make mission happen by connecting congregations with people, stories, publications, resources, and service programs available through Mission Network. Karla worships at Open Table Mennonite Fellowship, an emerging house church in Goshen.

Learning Tour to Bolivia

Learning tour to BoliviaMission Commission is in the early stages of planning a Learning Tour to Bolivia to visit Simon and Becca Smucker, Hannah Canaviri and Gretchen Geyer. We are planning for a June 2016 trip, specific dates and details to be determined. At this point, we wanted to make you aware of this so you can start planning and dreaming with us. If you would like to be on a team to plan this trip, please speak with someone from the Mission Commission--Pete Graber, Neil Richer, James Yoder, Clare Krabill or Marilyn Rudy-Froese.

Menno's Best Coffee

Menno's best coffeeGet it while you can!  A limited supply of Menno's Best coffee is available for purchase during fellowship time. If more is needed, a final order will be made, but the last day to order is June 14. After that, it will no longer be available. Cost is $12 per bag, available in ground or whole bean. The MYF receives $5 per bag sold. Thanks!

Pre-convention Prayer Retreat

Pre-convention prayer retreatPastors, delegates and others interested in MCUSA are invited to a pre-convention prayer retreat on Saturday, June 6, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Waterford Mennonite Church. The purpose of the retreat is to recognize that we are all part of God's church and because of that assurance, we can lay our fear and anxiety about the future of MCUSA at the foot of the cross. We will focus on the One who gives us life and to whom we belong. The retreat will take place in four parts: gathering worship, open prayer opportunities, praying through song, and a light meal. This retreat is sponsored by Berkey Avenue Mennonite Church, Hively Avenue Mennonite Church and Waterford Mennonite Church. Prayer and Discernment Guide

Prayer and Discernment guideWe invite you to be in prayer for our denomination during the next 6 weeks leading up to convention. If it is helpful to you, a six-week prayer and discernment guide has been prepared by Leo Hartshorn, a pastor and artist from Portland, Oregon. It includes six weeks of materials to help guide delegates and attendees in discernment before they arrive in Kansas City. The resource includes original art by Leo, as well as Scripture study, questions for reflection and more. You can download the guide for free online.

Mission Commission: Personal Items Drive

Elkhart county women shelter- items driveDuring the month of June, the Mission Commission is sponsoring a Personal Items Drive for the Elkhart County Women’s Shelter. The Elkhart County Women's Shelter is the only domestic violence shelter in Elkhart County. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year to provide crisis intervention and safe shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Items the Shelter currently needs include: deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, towels, pillows, twin sheets, razors, diapers (Size 4), baby wipes, baby shampoo and diaper rash cream.

June 8-12, has more than 50 athletic, fine arts, science, and all kinds of fun camps for age 4 through rising grade 8. Camps are $30-$40. Additionally, Shine On Campcare will provide a place for children for before, between, and after their camps. View camp listings and register online.

Bethany Teacher of the Year

Linda Hochstetler was named Bethany’s teacher-of-the-year for 2014-15. Linda, who was a significant leader behind Bethany's decision to add fourth and fifth grades several years ago, is lovingly called "Mrs. H" by her fifth-grade students. Learn more.

Hymn Sing

Join in singing favorite hymns from the last 50 years as AMBS celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount. Musicians leading the singing include Adam Tice, Ellen Kraybill, Laurie Blough, Ben Breckbill and Janeen Bertsche Johnson. The June 3 service begins at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel at 3003 Benham Avenue, Elkhart.

Mennonite World Conference Global Assembly

The Global Church has registered – Have you?  Registration numbers from Africa, Asia, and Latin America are exceptionally strong.  It’s not too late to join the growing North American representation to welcome our international brothers and sisters.  Register today, the Assembly will be held July 21-26, 2015 in Harrisburg, PA.

The Window Open for First Friday

The Window's kitchen will be open for June's First Friday. Friday's meal runs from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.or until the food runs out. We will feature deep dish pasta, green beans, tossed salad, dinner rolls and we will have a variety of cake for dessert. This event is hosted by Waterford Mennonite Church. The suggested donation is $8.00.

Goshen Community Contra Dance

The Goshen Community contra dance is hosting another family dance on Saturday June 6, 2015 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, right before the monthly Contra dance. It is geared for any age, and the caller will adjust to whatever ages are there that night. Its going to be good wholesome fun to round out the school year!  We meet at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of 5th and Jefferson in downtown Goshen. The family dance will be $5 for age 13 and older. Children 12 and younger are free. If you come for the whole evening (family dance and the contra dance) you can get in to the family dance for free by paying the regular price of $8.

MDC Goldenrod Work Days

MDC Goldenrod Community Members will be heading to Camp Amigo on June 1-3 and the majority of our folks will be participating.  With that in mind, we are inviting any and all who are able to join us at either our Goshen or Middlebury Campus for some much needed helping hands with maintenance issues.  If your congregation would be interested in assisting, we would be happy to have you join us. We greatly appreciate how each congregation supports MDC Goldenrod and thank you for considering this opportunity.

Church Land Management

Waterford Mennonite Church will host a hike sponsored by the Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society in their 55-acre wetland area, Saturday, June 6, 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  John Smith and Bill Minter will lead the hike. One featured plant is a rare flowering orchid. All are welcome, no registration is required.  Meet in the SW corner of the church parking lot.

Come join with doctors, nurses, dieticians, therapists, chaplains, mental health workers, and many other healthcare workers and their families from around the world!  It's the Mennonite Healthcare Fellowship (MHF) Annual Gathering, July 19-21, 2015, immediately prior to Mennonite World Conference Global Assembly in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. 2015 Funk Fest at Prairie Street MC

John Bell of the Iona Community in Scotland—prolific composer, teacher on worship and music—will speak at Prairie Street Mennonite Church, Elkhart, on Saturday, June 13, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Topic: “The engaged spirituality of Jesus.” Cost: $20. Waterford Mennonite church seeks to hire a part-time custodian to assist in the ministry of providing welcoming, clean, and safe facilities for God’s work among members and visitors. This is a shared position between two part-time people, each ranging from 10 – 15 hours per week.  Schedule is somewhat flexible, but typically involves several days throughout the week.
