mccMennonite Central Committee

The public is invited to view an MCC quilt from Tanzania on display in The Depot. In Tanzania, the rate of albinism, an inherited condition where people lack pigmentation or coloration in their skin, hair and eyes, is 10 times higher than in the United States, Canada and Europe. MCC works with partners in Tanzania, where people living with albinism are stigmatized and marginalized by their families and communities. In 2015, MCC partnered with Albino Peacemakers to conduct a camp for 91 students with visual impairments teaching them to protect their skin, encourage them to be peacemakers and model the love of Christ so they can know they are valued by God. Children drew on the quilt squares and women with albinism made this quilt for MCC. The quilt will be on display, along with literature, stories and other information, in the atrium of The Depot MCC Thrift Shops through March 18. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

ElisabethIn a recent Love is a Verb blog post titled, I am because we are, Elisabeth Barahona writes, "Marriage is a mysterious journey of learning how to consent to God in order to learn how to say “yes” to one’s spouse. It is a delicate interdependence of honoring both the I and the we in this journey towards marital togetherness." Read more.

Church Notes

Our Worship

This Sunday:  February 19
Sermon title:  Kaleidoscope God
Scripture:  1 Cor 13:9-12 and Mark 12:28-34a
Themes:  What are some of the ancient names used throughout the millennia to call out to God? What do they mean and where did they come from? How does this help me to better understand who God is and to worship Him? And how does this fit into the beautiful, magnificent and eternal journey of knowing God? We will explore these together in the sermon.

Next Sunday:  February 26
Scripture:  Matthew 5:38-48
Theme:  Taking Jesus seriously and ourselves less seriously:  As we prepare for Lent, with its theme of "Restore us, O God", we want to name our shortcomings, those things that get in the way of our loving God and our neighbor (and enemy) well, so that they don't get in the way of how God longs to restore us.
