Seating During Worship

Seating Arrangements in the SanctuaryWhen you seat yourself for worship, we encourage you to choose seats in the middle of the row, so those who come after you can find seats closer to the aisles. The front row of the center section also has open seats. The Worship Commission is considering different seating arrangements that might include more chairs, but meanwhile every chair is important.

World Fellowship Sunday Potluck

world fellowship SundayOn Sunday, January 18, Mennonite congregations around the world will celebrate World Fellowship Sunday. Each year, on the Sunday closest to 21 January, Mennonite World Conference congregations are invited to remember the first Anabaptist baptism in 1525, an act of obedience and courage, which continues to shape our understanding of what it means to be disciples of Jesus Christ today. On this one Sunday of the year, we celebrate our global Anabaptist community in our worship together, in spirit and in body, and in praying for each other. Learn more.

Thank You

Thank YouThank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, condolences, and flowers at this time of sorrow and celebration with the death of my mother, Bertha Alma Plank. The outpouring of care is a gift of grace through a difficult transition and greatly appreciated.

Women's Lunch Bunch Fundraiser

First Friday FundraiserOn February's First Friday (February 6), the Women's "Lunch Bunch" group will be preparing and serving the Meal served at The Window as a fund-raiser for The Window.  Every First Friday of the month they ask a "service group" to provide the meal for them. Our Women's group did this last year and has again accepted this service project for next month.
Since the women in our group will be providing some of the items on the menu--making home-made items and absorbing the cost of those items--we are inviting the congregation to participate in the project by helping to fund the cost of the ham that will be used in the main dish, as well as the salad greens for the tossed salad on the menu.  You may put your donation into the regular church offering and designate it for "The Window project".  When we can cover the cost for the entire meal, ALL the proceeds from the meal will then go to the Window for the services they provide to the Goshen community. Another way to help with this fund-raiser would be to join in the First Friday downtown activities and enjoy the meal at The Window!  Our menu is:  Scalloped potatoes and ham, Harvard Beets, Tossed Salad with home-made dressings, Home-made Dinner Rolls, and a variety of home-made cakes to choose from for dessert.  Hot drinks and water are provided by The Window.  Serving begins at 5:00 p.m. and continues until the food runs out--which it often does. We appreciate any help from the congregation. Thank you.

Desserts Needed!

Desserts NeededThe Education Commission is planning a special meal on Sunday, January 25 to say thank you and honor or teachers from nursery through adult classes.  Please consider providing a dessert (any kind) for the appreciation event.  Contact Ruth Roth or (574) 533-8955.

Meals for College Students

College students mealOver the years Berkey has been a wonderful, welcoming church home for many college/young adult students. One of the highlights for the students is having a meal each Sunday after church. This allows them to get to know our church family in a more informal setting and learn to know a wider range of people. If you can help in hosting a meal, please go to the website (usarname: students   password: bamf)  or contact Ruth Roth or (574) 533-8955). You don’t need to make anything fancy – just a simple meal of food you enjoy making. You can host in your home or at the church, using the church kitchen. You may sign up individually, with someone else or as a small group. Thank you so much for your meals and friendship to our students!

Care Packages

care packagesOn Wednesday, January 28 the MYF will be preparing care packages for Berkey Avenue College Students.  Please bring individually wrapped treats to share with our students.  Homemade baked items are fine, too. Please bring them to church on Sunday or have all items to the church by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday 28. Thank you for your support!

More Sanctuary Chairs

more chairs for the sanctuaryThe Coordinating Council is offering the congregation an opportunity to buy more new chairs for the sanctuary and to replace at least some of the older brown chairs. These new chairs will be identical to the 107 chairs that are currently in the front of the sanctuary. Our chair fund already has about $6,260, enough to buy 44 new chairs. The Council is accepting further donations into the chair fund until the last Sunday of January. Learn more.

Without a _____, the people perish

Rather than our own ideas and ideals of what's best for the church, Sara Wenger Shenk confesses, "How I long for Jesus’ vision to transport and shake us all to the core." In her post on Practicing Reconciliation, Without a _____, the people perish, she urges us to live into the biblical vision of caring for others and to remember that God's grace is sufficient. This year, Mennonite Mission Network’s Mennonite Voluntary Service program is restructuring to respond to current realities. Pray for Nathan Penner and Neil Richer as they oversee this change, for the 11 congregations and communities that will be hosting larger service households, and for the 10 congregations and communities that will be closing their MVS units.
Pray for Bonneyville Mennonite, Bristol, IN (pastors: Marcella Hershberger and Dale Shenk). We just put a new structure and leadership team in place. Pray that the new team will have wisdom as they begin their terms and set priorities for the congregation.
