Fall College Assistance

Mennonite CollegesThis fall our congregation will have 14 young people attending Mennonite colleges. Each student is eligible for assistance of $500 for the fall semester from our college matching fund. Giving to this fund is financially prudent because the colleges match all contributions dollar for dollar—plus you get a tax deduction on your contribution. Very few investments double your money like this does. Please mark your contribution for the college fund and place it in the offering. Thank you.

Wedding Shower

wedding showerThis Sunday, July 27th, during our fellowship hour, we will be celebrating the wedding of Lynelle Yoder and Josh Hofer with a card/ money shower.

Seeking Volunteers

CleaningThe custodians will not be here the weekend of July 26-27 to do the cleaning. This is your last chance to volunteer! If you are able to help out with cleaning, please let Patrick Buller know.

Vacation Notes

Marilyn on vacationMarilyn will be on vacation from July 31-August 6. Please contact one of the deacons (Renae Yoder, Richard Miller, Laura Horst or Doug Baker) if you have a pastoral need, and they will be in touch with Ron Guengerich, pastor at Silverwood Mennonite Church, who is on call for pastoral emergencies.

Marriage Retreat: a Bicycle Built for Two

Marriage retreatA Bicycle Built for Two is a hard-hitting comedy that takes a playful look at marriage, commitment, and divorce. It follows three couples at various stages in their relationships: a young couple, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed with their recent engagement, an aging pair of empty nesters who are trying to rediscover their marriage after some-odd 30 years and a dueling duo just entering a divorce. Come on out on September 12 at 7:00 p.m., to Waterford Mennonite Church and catch the show. Tickets are $10 per person.  Additionally, the marriage retreat will continue on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until noon.  There will be light refreshments at 9:45 a.m. and childcare will be provided. New to the Library

New to the libraryThis week we have three new selections to the library. It happened in Moscow by Maureen S. Klassen, a fascinating, non-fiction account not only about family relationships in the 1930's but also about a Mennonite leader, C. F. Klassen, and the apparent efforts to protect his reputation. Having Our Say: The Delaney Sister's First 100 Years by Sarah L. Delany and A. Elizabeth Delany  features two voices beautifully blended to evoke an epic history, often cruel and brutal, but always deeply humane. For the younger set,Grandma's Shoes by Pat Fisher is a story of grandma's only two pairs of shoes but is finally rewarded when a package arrives from Sears Roebuck.

Box Tops For Education

Box TopsWe have 616 Box Tops for Education and 271 points for education ready to mail to Hopi Mission School. Our box is not full and will be mailed Sept 1. We would be happy to have more to include in that mailing. Please put coupons in Genie Kehr's mail box or in the place provided by Mission Commission by their bulletin board. They are no longer taking Betty Crocker points. Thanks for all your giving in the past.

Transitions: The Church Office

Rafael Barahona

Rafael Barahona
Rafael became the Communications and Office Manager at Berkey in April of 2013. Rafael was born and raised in Canada to parents in ministry, and spent much of his childhood moving around before arriving in Goshen in 1993. He is a Bethany and Goshen College graduate. After a year of Mennonite Voluntary Service in Montreal, Rafael spent over a year traveling around the US and Canada playing music on a musical tour that was partially supported by Mennonite Mission Network and Mennonite Central Committee. After several years in Charlottesville, VA, Rafael and Elisabeth sought to be closer to family and moved back to the area in August of 2012 with kids, Isabela and Thiago. At the end of this August, Rafael will be leaving the church office to pursue his own graphic design business (R3 Design) full time. He will be succeeded by Priscillah Metekai who has already begun to take on some responsibilities in the church office.

Whether you are new or a charter member, we are continually learning to know each other and we want to get to know you more. It can be very simple, your name, what you do for a living and what you are interested in. You can view our newsletter archive for some examples. Interested in being featured? Let us know!
