Office Manager

Office ManagerPriscillah Metekai has announced her resignation as Berkey’s Communication and Office Manager, effective October 5. Jenny Hooley will begin working in that role on an interim basis.

Mission Commission - Items for MCC

Items for MCCDuring the month of October, the Mission Commission will be collecting items for MCC refugee kits. This is an opportunity to respond to the ongoing refugee crisis which impact millions of people around the globe. Please purchase some or all of the items listed below. As a congregation we will combine our gifts and take them to the depot where they will be packaged for shipment.  
4 large bars bath soap 
1 plastic bottle shampoo (13–24 oz; place in resealable plastic bag)
4 large bars laundry soap (Some stores carry Fels Naptha®, Sunlight® or Zote® brands)
4 adult-size toothbrushes
4 new bath towels (medium weight, dark or bright colors)
2 wide-tooth combs (6–8 in)
1 fingernail clipper(good quality)
1 box adhesive bandages(minimum 40 count, assorted)
1 package sanitary pads (18–24 count thin maxi)

Appreciation Event for all GIHN Volunteers

A special event is happening for all GIHN volunteers. You are invited to come to JoJo’s Pretzels, Main Street, Goshen, on Sunday, October 18, from 3:00- 5:00 for a free pretzel and ice cream drink. JoJos will only be open that day for this event so volunteers will not need a sticker or card this year.  Just come and enjoy a free pretzel and ice cream drink! Thank you, thank you, for all you do in serving those that come through the GIHN shelter.

UB Bruin Club

The UB Bruin Club is an opportunity for students in grades 3-5 who are planning to attend Bethany Christian Schools or wanting to explore that option. Children can make friends with future classmates and begin to have their own fun experiences at Bethany. Fall Concert

Bethany Christian Middle School instrumental groups will present a fall concert on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Goshen College Goshen College

Zorá String Quartet will be performing on Sunday, October 11 at 4:00 p.m. at Rieth Recital Hall (Music Center). Tickets are $10 general admission, available online or by calling (574) 535-7566. (Prorated Season Tickets are still available for the Rieth Chamber Series!). Grand Prize and Gold Medal Winner of the 42nd Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Zorá Quartet has performed in the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music in England. Zorá’s distinguished career as a string quartet includes being selected for the Chamber Music Residency at Banff Centre and Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, performing at the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Germany, and being named the Graduate Quartet in Residence at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

AMBS Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary

AMBS seeks a Director of Library Services to oversee the collection and staff, lead instructional programming, administer the library budget, plan cooperation with other libraries and information agencies, and assess the effectiveness of the library. Qualifications include a master’s degree in library science, administrative experience, intercultural competency, written and oral communication skills, abilities to use new technological applications and to work well with people. Graduate degree in a theological discipline, fluency in Spanish or other modern language, and prior experience in teaching/instruction and strategic planning preferred. Nazareth Hospital Presentation

Leaders from Nazareth Hospital EMMS, the oldest hospital in the modern State of Israel, will be featured in an informational public presentation on Monday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship, 2509 Berkey Avenue, in Goshen.  Dr. Bishara Bisharat, Head of Nazareth Hospital EMMS, and Ms. Samar Mansour-Samawi, Director of Public Relations, will lead in the discussion to which the public is invited.  Also present will be Jason Allgire from Nazareth Project Inc., a U.S.-based organization which supports the hospital.  The meeting will provide an opportunity for interested persons to learn more about the impact of Nazareth Hospital, School of Nursing, and related ministries such as Nazareth Village. Camerata choir concert

Our first concert of the year, Flights of Fancy, includes works from the Renaissance through the modern period that center on the themes of flight, heaven, and angels. The centerpiece is “Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine” by the wildly popular composer Eric Whitacre. Combining Renaissance and modern compositional styles, this piece will be accompanied by images of Da Vinci’s fantastical designs of his flying machines. Our highly eclectic program also includes selections from Haydn’sThe Creation, spirituals by Dawson and DeCormier, an anthem from Lady Diana’s funeral, bluegrass selections accompanied by traditional instruments, a Beatles tune, and more. Flights of Fancy will take place on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Sauder Hall on the campus of Goshen College in Goshen, IN.  Tickets are available online

Comforter Bash

You're invited to a Comforter Bash! Make plans to join us for the MCC Great Lakes Comforter Bash in Goshen on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24. People of all ages are invited to knot comforters at Pleasant View Mennonite Church (58529 County Road 23 in Goshen). A handmade comforter provides not only warmth but also a tangible message to people that their needs are not forgotten. The comforters will be distributed by MCC around the world. More information available online

Children’s Choir opportunity

Mennonite Youth Choir Festival  would like to invite children in grades 3-9 to join in a weekend of singing, March 5 - 6, 2016, in Goshen. The church has a long and deep tradition of praising God through singing. In order for this to continue it is up to parents and the faith community around them to encourage their children with opportunities that develop a love for music in worship. Youth of all denominations are encouraged to participate. 2016 festival dates are as follows: practice on Saturday, March 5, 2016; concert performance on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 2 p.m. (free and open to the public. All children from Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and beyond who love to sing—grades 3 through 9. The cost per Child is $35 early registration (ends November 1), $45 regular registration. Transitional Coaching Program

The Inn Crowd- Christmas Musical
Goshen community children and youth are invited to participate in this Christmas musical at College Mennonite Church on December 13 by Lee Dengler and Susan Naus Dengler.  Informational kickoff meeting is on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. and the rehearsals begin on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Susan Dengler or (574) 849-5355.

MEDA Dinner and Program

Join Michiana Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) for dinner and a program on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at Silverwood Mennonite Church in Goshen. Len Geiser and Jonathan Geiser, father and son family business advisors, will be presenting a program "Succession Issues with Business Transitions." Family-owned businesses have many strengths and are a vital element of the US economy. But they also experience many unique challenges. Our October program will focus on one of the most important challenges that most family companies face, that of business succession.

MDC Goldenrod Fundraiser

Please come to the MDC Goldenrod Chicken BBQ fundraiser for Project Promise on Thursday, October 15 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Fairhaven Amish Mennonite Church. Fairhaven is located 5½ miles east of Goshen on the north side of State Road 4 (13513 Indiana 4, Middlebury). Enjoy High’s chicken with potato, broccoli, bacon bits, sour cream, and home-made pie (fruit cups for carry-out orders). The suggested donation is $10 for the dine-in or carry-out meal. Proceeds will support the work of Project Promise, a program of MDC Goldenrod that aims to meet the spiritual and social needs of persons with disabilities.
