Opportunities to Support Model School

Model StudentsWe have a couple of ways that you can help support Model Elementary School. The first is to provide new or gently used gym shoes for Model's shoe exchange. Students need the gym shoes for their PE classes.  Shoes with laces or velcro are both okay.  Slip on shoes are okay if they come up high on the foot and cannot easily fall off when running or kicking a ball. Sizes 13, 1, 2, and 3 are needed most but other sizes can be used as well. Place shoes in the box under the mailboxes by May 11 or deliver them to Ann Garl at Model. The second option is musical. Kent Dutchersmith, music teacher at Model, requests a donation of an old drum set or a snare drum and high hat cymbals (with stand and pedal) in playable condition. Please contact Kent if you are interested in donating.

Getting to Know

Christian Education Commission

Lois Mast

Lois Mast
I was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, which 50 years ago seemed much further from Goshen then it does today.  I attended Bethany Christian (where I met John), and graduated from Goshen College with a degree in Physical Education and Health.

After marrying my high school sweetheart we ventured off to the Indianapolis area where I taught at a Catholic school for 7 years until our 3 sons were born.  Our community and church in Indy offered us wonderful friendships and challenged us spiritually so it was quite difficult to leave when John got the opportunity to teach at Bethany.  But moving to Goshen 15 years ago allowed us to better care for my aging parents and we found a wonderful church community here at Berkey.

In Indianapolis John and I served as youth sponsors for most of the years we attended First Mennonite and since attending Berkey I have been involved with youth ministry which adds up to at least  25 years of working with youth!  These interactions have enriched and blessed my life.  It is hard to say good-bye to this ‘work’ but I trust I will discover new ways to offer my gifts to the world and church.Along with my part time teaching job at New Paris Elementary, I enjoy reading, drinking tea, eating chocolate, walking/running, and time spent with my children (who are now adults).

Whether you are new or a charter member, we are continually learning to know each other and we want to get to know you more. It can be very simple, your name, what you do for a living and what you are interested in. You can view our newsletter archive for some examples. Interested in being featured? Let us know!

We will no longer be printing and distributing calendars each month.  They are however, available for download.

PrayerPlease contact the office by 9:00 a.m. Thursday with prayer requests.

Mennonite Mission Network’s partner, DOOR Denver, will soon hold their annual Cinco de Mayo community celebration and fundraiser. Pray for the members of DOOR’s three participant churches in the city who throw this party that mixes food and entertainment from Anglo and Latino cultures to share the gospel.
For Kalamazoo Mennonite Fellowship and Pastor Will Fitzgerald. They praise God that they completed their seventh anniversary in January, and for a new family joining the fellowship on
Easter Sunday. Please pray for wisdom as they consider if, how and when they might transition from a home fellowship to a larger space.
Please pray for the teachers, staff and administrators at Model school, that they may have the energy they need to meet the demands of each day, the wisdom they need to meet the challenges of each day, and the compassion they need for each of the students in their care.
Please remember in prayer the youth attending baptism / membership exploration classes: Bobby Sessa, Evan Krabill, Kyle Snyder and Loren Schrock.
