Playground and Parking Project
Our Capital Campaign Committee invites you to contribute toward our playground and parking project. If the fundraising and the planning go well, we still hope to have the parking and playground installed before winter. If you choose to contribute, write your check to Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship and mark it for the Playground/Parking Fund. If you would like to make a pledge towards the project, you will find a pledge box in the fellowship hall under the "Getting to Know" board by the library.
Thank you to all who helped in digging, picking and rinsing approximately 500 pounds of potatoes for the Model School project. The potatoes are currently stored in the Berkey basement and will be available until they are gone. To date we have sold over 150 pounds.
We will continue to offer bags of potatoes for a $5 donation. We also have small potatoes and slightly damaged potatoes that are free for you to take. We are near the end of the Purple potatoes and the Yukon Gold, but we will have Kennebecs (white) and Red Norlands (red) for your consumption. If you have any questions regarding the potatoes please contact James Yoder.
Berkey's annual Fall Fest will be Saturday, September 17. The Straight A's will be providing music. Invite family and friends. If you know any college students, make it a point to bring them along. Grilled pork sausage and drinks will be provided. You should bring:
- A salad and a desert to share.
- Your own picnic service.
- Lawn chairs or a blanket.
- Lawn games (if you would like).

The Prayer Circle of three to five people meets routinely on Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. in the church offices. We pray for Berkey members who have shared joys and concerns during the worship service, by using the blue prayer cards, or through individual concerns specifically expressed to us. All prayer requests are kept confidential. Additionally, we pray for the life of Berkey Ave, the community surrounding it, and the wider world.
If you have a need, know that you are being prayed for on Mondays and onward! If you feel a nudging to join us on Monday nights, you are warmly welcomed.
Thank You from Model School

Relief Sale Needs Help with Recycling
Cheese is not your only option. The Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale is one of just a few MCC sales working to implement sustainable waste disposal procedures. Volunteers are needed for this effort to succeed. Recycling volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts Friday evening, September 23 and Saturday, September 24 through mid-afternoon. You'll still have time to enjoy the sale. Contact David Gerber
, 534-8408 for more information.
Last year the Relief Sale Board supplied food vendors with compostable serving containers and recyclable cups. In 2016, improved signage will facilitate separating waste into clearly labeled barrels for composting, recycling, and landfill. Compostable plates, paper, and food waste will be taken to a local duck yard where it decomposes in several months. Bags of trash and recycling are moved to dumpsters that are taken away by Bordon Waste-Away.
First Friday Meal at The Window
River Oaks Community Church will be hosting the First Friday event. They are serving B.B.Q. chicken and Mexican fried rice with a vegetable, rolls and dessert. The suggested price for this meal is $8.00. All proceeds go toward The Window’s programs.
Seed to Feed Program
Church Community Services has a Seed to Feed program that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to the guests who use our food pantry. We extend our season by freezing our tomatoes, green beans and peppers. Last year we froze 550 pounds of green beans and tomatoes. Recently, a few women at Creekside Church of the Brethren processed 200 pounds of tomatoes in one session.
We need at least one group of 4-10 people each week for the next 4-5 weeks in the season to keep up with the tomato production.
If you can help us out, please contact Natasha Kauffmann at 574-295-3673 ext 122 email@example.com

Once again, Kroger has generously offered to match a donation of 5,000 “Meals in a Can” (such as Spaghetti O’s, ravioli, beef stew, and hearty soups) with another 5,000 cans. If the community can raise enough money to purchase those cans, Kroger will then deliver all 10,000 to Kokomo directly. To donate to this drive in the Goshen area, please make checks payable to: Waterford Mennonite Church, 65975 State Rd 15, Goshen, IN 46526, by noon on Friday September 9.
