Berkey Announcements

New Activities for Children

Activities for ChildrenQuiet activities are available on a shelf in the back of the church for 4 and 5 year-olds to use during worship. We warmly welcome young ones with all their energy and curiosity to be present in our worship time.

Exhibit Invitation

Between Earth and SkyMerrill Krabill has an exhibit in Goshen College's Hershberger Gallery (in the Music Center) called Between Earth and Sky. This exhibit explores loss, mourning, and hope from a perspective of faith and mystery. Several Sunday school classes are coming to the gallery this Sunday (October 23), 10:30 - 12:00. Merrill will talk briefly a couple of times for people that are interested, but it is a come and go event. Ask questions, talk with friends, . . . Anybody interested is welcome.

Copier Update

copierThe office copy machine is out of order. Because of its age, parts are no longer available. A new machine has been ordered. We anticipate that it will arrive by the end of next week.

Getting to Know

New PhotosSeveral new photos have been posted in the fellowship hall. The Getting to Know board and the bulletin board by the mailboxes both contain new additions that you may enjoy viewing.

Play along and see if you can spot anybody you know, and don't forget to like our page if you haven't already!

Bethany Christian High School’s Senior Class Fish Fry is on October 28, 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. Come for an evening of fellowship, homemade pie, and all the fish you can eat. Tickets are available from all Bethany seniors (including Berkey's Carissa Hostetler) or at the door. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children in grades 1-6. Preschool age is free. Carryout is also available with adult tickets only.

Goshen College Goshen College

High School Guatemala Tour

Goshen College is calling for applications from high school students to participate in the new Study-Service Theology Term (SSTT), a two-week study tour in Guatemala, June 2017. Thanks to a grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc., the cost for SSTT is only $100 per participant. The deadline to apply is October 30, 2016. Participants are selected through a competitive application process and will be drawn from students from any Christian denominational group in the United States who have completed their sophomore, junior or senior year by June 2017, with priority given to Latino and African-American students. Goshen College alumna and visiting scholar Ellah Wakatama Allfrey will present the SA Yoder Lecture: "A Daily Assortment of Astonishing Things" on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m., in the GC Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Wakatama Allfrey is a leading literary editor and critic in London, a judge for the prestigious 2015 Man Booker Prize and was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Prince Charles in 2011, which is one of the highest cultural honors in England. She has previously served as an editor for Jonathan Cape, Random House and Penguin Press. She currently sits on the selection panel for the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Fellowship and as a judge for the 2016 Dublin International Literary Award.

AMBS Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary


You are invited to a Tony Brown concert this evening, October. 21, 7:00 p.m. at AMBS Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount. Baritone Tony Brown, a peace ambassador and advocate for human rights, will perform songs and stories of peace, hope and justice. A free-will offering will be received.

The Parents Circle - Families Forum

George, Najwah, and Rami are members of The Parents Circle – Families Forum, a unique organization made up of more than 600 Israeli and Palestinian bereaved families. They will share their journey of transforming their incredible loss and pain into a catalyst for reconciliation and peace in the midst of the ongoing conflict. Open to all, this event will take place at 7:00 p.m., October 28 at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary’s Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount

Registration for “Beyond Buried Treasure: Turning Hidden Resources into Assets” is open. This second joint Mennonite Health Assembly and Mennonite Education Agency Education Leaders Gathering takes place March 9-12 in Jacksonville, Florida. Read more.

Disaster Response in Haiti

MCC welcomes donations of money for its disaster response in Haiti, where people are suffering the effects of Hurricane Matthew, which crossed the country October 4. Matthew's high winds and extensive flooding caused significant damage and increased already heightened cholera concerns in the Artibonite Valley, where MCC's long-term reforestation program operates. To donate, visit the MCC website, call 1-888-563-4676 or send a check to MCC, 21 S. 12th St., PO Box 500, Akron PA 17501.

Comforter Bash

People of all ages are invited to knot comforters at Pleasant View Mennonite Church this weekend, Friday and Saturday, October 21 and 22, for the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Great Lakes Comforter Bash in Goshen. Drop in anytime between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. both days. Lunch will be available for a donation. A handmade comforter provides not only warmth but also a tangible message to people that their needs are not forgotten. The comforters will be distributed by MCC around the world. Read more.

The Mennonite Event

Join the staff of The Mennonite this evening, October 21, 7:30 p.m. at College Mennonite Church for coffee and conversation with Dr. Malinda Berry, professor of theology at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, and Dr. Gerald Mast, professor of communication at Bluffton (Ohio) University. Berry and Mast will be talking with Hannah Heinzekehr, executive director of The Mennonite, Inc., about the legacy and future of Mennonite publications.

Everence Week of Generosity

Everence members are invited to volunteer at their favorite charity during the Week of Generosity, November 4 - 13. These charities will earn a donation from Everence. The registration deadline is October 27. Learn more and register.


Have something to sell, rent or lend?  Want to buy or borrow something? Looking for a job or wanting to volunteer? This is the place to have it be known!

Mark and Jenny Yoder have a partially furnished one bedroom basement apartment that will be available for rent at the beginning of December. It is near Goshen College and can house up to two people. Utility costs and washer and dryer usage are included in the rent cost - $500 for one person, $575 for two. Please contact Jenny if interested.

Mennonite Mission Network seeks a fulltime assistant for Africa to coordinate and expedite administrative services for the director for Africa, coordinate North American assignment, appointment, re-appointment and end-of-employment processes and assist with prayer letters.
