Vacation Notes

We're Closed SignNext week, the office will be open as usual on Monday. Priscillah is on vacation beginning on Tuesday. Marilyn will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday. She and Dan will be attending Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference annual sessions in Indianapolis Thursday through Saturday.

Second Sunday Summer Picnic

picnic SundayThis Sunday, we will have our first of the three summer picnics in the place of Sunday school​ hour.  Please bring only finger foods (sandwiches, chips, relish trays, cookies) for carry-in. Drinks will be provided. Bring your own table service, chairs and/or blankets to eat outside if the weather permits.

Hosting GIHN

Mission Commission: Personal Items Drive

Elkhart county women shelter- items driveDuring the month of June, the Mission Commission is sponsoring a Personal Items Drive for the Elkhart County Women’s Shelter. The Elkhart County Women's Shelter is the only domestic violence shelter in Elkhart County. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year to provide crisis intervention and safe shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Items the Shelter currently needs include: deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, towels, pillows, twin sheets, razors, diapers (Size 4), baby wipes, baby shampoo and diaper rash cream.

MCC Relief Sale News

MCC Relief Sale NewsRelief Sale dates:  September 25 – 26, 2015

The Relief Sale is just around the corner and planning for the Faithful Giving Auction (formerly the New and Used Auction) has begun. The Live Auction will highlight new and quality used household, outdoor and antique items.  Bidding will start at 6:00 p.m. in the Quilt Building on Friday night.  If you or your business has items to donate, please contact Deanna King at 574-875-8987.

Attention Quilters

New this year, the Quilt Auction will include machine quilted quilts. Come ready to bid on these quality items! Quilt registration forms are located online or for a paper copy contact Mafra Maust at 574-875-6280. 

The Annual Choir Concert

The annual choir concert for the Michiana Relief Sale will take place this fall on Saturday evening, September 26, 2015. There will not be a choir concert on Friday night at the Relief Sale or Sunday evening at Sauder Hall. The Saturday evening concert will be at College Mennonite Church adjacent to the Goshen College campus. Practices for both the Men’s and Women’s choirs will take place at College Mennonite Church and will begin on Sunday, August 23rd. Additional details will follow at a later date.

Bus driver is needed (before and after school) to begin in August 2015. Applicants must have or be willing to obtain a commercial driver’s license with school endorsement, a safe driving record, physical health to operate a 26-passenger bus safely, first-aid certification, and interpersonal skills to relate well to students and parents. AMBS Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary 

The Death of Rosie Reschly

Rosie Reschly, who retired in 2011 after serving as executive assistant to seven AMBS presidents over 23 years, died on Wednesday. Sara Wenger Shenk, current president, said, "With gratitude for Rosie's beautiful spirit, resolute courage, unflagging helpfulness, and encouraging attentiveness to the AMBS community and mission over many years. May you rest in peace, dear dear Rosie." The memorial service will be on Monday at Sunnyside Mennonite Church.

With My Body I Thee Worship

Sara Wenger Shenk reflects on the dignity of our bodies--of each person--in a new blog post, "With my body I thee worship." She writes that this phrase, taken directly from a public liturgy--a marriage liturgy of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, boldly declares for all to hear that marriage includes bodily devotion to one’s partner. ADNet Welcomes New Leadership

The Board of Directors for Anabaptist Disabilities Network is pleased to welcome Kathy Nofziger Yeakey to the role of executive director for ADNet. In mid-May Kathy began working alongside program director Christine Guth. Kathy brings experience in organizational leadership and donor development in several not-for-profit organizations. Come join with doctors, nurses, dieticians, therapists, chaplains, mental health workers, and many other healthcare workers and their families from around the world!  It's the Mennonite Healthcare Fellowship (MHF) Annual Gathering, July 19-21, 2015, immediately prior to Mennonite World Conference Global Assembly in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A corps of healthcare professionals is needed to provide triage medical services during the Mennonite World Conference (MWC) global assembly in Harrisburg, Pa., July 21–25. Doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians are invited to volunteer for one or more four-hour shifts throughout the week.
