Fall Fest

Fall Fest 2015Our Fall Fest will happen on Saturday, September 5, at 5:00 p.m. on the lawn, featuring a meat roast of both lamb and pork. Please bring a large salad and dessert to share with others, your own picnic service, and lawn chairs or blankets. Buns, chips, condiments, and drinks will be provided. You are also encouraged to bring a favorite lawn game to do with others. See the flier.

Fall Fest Music/Dance

Fall Fest Music/DanceOur initial plans for music for this year's fall fest (September 5) have once again, fallen through. The idea of gathering musicians from the congregation was presented to Andy Martin, the premise not being a contra dance with a caller, but to just play whatever songs we think are fun & if people want to dance they can dance. Coordinating folks for rehearsal & such would be easiest for Andy via email.

Online Directory Update

We are currently in the process of updating our directory! If you have a family photo you would like to use, or have a new address, phone number or email, please email it to the office for inclusion.

New to the Library

New to the libraryThis week, we have one book added to the library: Broken and Blessed: Writings from Heidi Siemens-Rhodes edited by Jessica Baldanzi and Bethany Swope and inscribed by Jan Siemens, mother of Heidi "to BAMF for support for Heidi during the years she was with us". The writings are taken from Heidi's Caring Bridge blogs as well as sermons given at various places and times.

New Men's Group at Berkey

Men's GroupThere has been a growing interest to explore the possibility of a men's group which would provide a safe space to discuss various sensitive issues from a man's perspective. Possible topics could include marriage, sexuality, pornography, being a parent/role model, being a provider, self image as well as other topics. Content will be driven in large part by those who participate. The only prerequisites would be men who can commit to some regularity and who have willingness to strive for honesty, vulnerability and accountability. Doug Baker would serve as the initial contact point and would be part of the group, but likely not the facilitator. Please let Doug know if you are interested and what topics would be most relevant to you.

AMBS Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary

AMBS alumnus SeongHan Kim (Master of Arts: Peace Studies, 2005) has posted his Mennonite World Conference 2015 presentation, "Conscientious Objection in the Korean Context" on Peace Signs, the website of Mennonite Church USA's Peace and Justice Support Network. In this article, he looks at the ways ethnic nationalism, anti-communism and militarism in that region limits movements toward conscientious objection to military service and Christian pacifism, despite the substantial Christian presence there. Read his presentation here.
