Fall College Assistance
Our fall goal for the college and seminary assistance fund is $4,500, which will benefit 9 young people from Berkey. To date we've received $4,095, leaving $405 to meet our goal. This fund is one of the few ways you can double your investment--our colleges and seminaries match all contributions dollar for dollar. In addition, you get a tax deduction on your contribution. Please mark your contribution for the "college fund" and place it in the offering. Thank you.
My Coins Count
As you exit the sanctuary after worship, look for the MCC collection jars for your coins (or bills). My Coins Count
, formerly known as Penny Power,
will be collected for the 2016 Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale coming up on September 23 & 24 to support the relief, development and peace work of the Mennonite Central Committee. The focus again this year will be on providing water resources to people around the world. This work involves drilling wells, sand dams, cisterns, and more - all to provide better access to those who don't have clean water for their critical daily sustenance.
The Prayer Circle of three to five people meets routinely on Monday nights at 7:00 in the church offices. We pray for Berkey members who have shared joys and concerns during the worship service, by using the blue prayer cards, or through individual concerns specifically expressed to us. All prayer requests are kept confidential. Additionally, we pray for the life of Berkey Ave, the community surrounding it, and the wider world.
If you have a need, know that you are being prayed for on Mondays and onward! If you feel a nudging to join us on Monday nights, you are warmly welcomed.

Discuss and vote on the following motion from the SLT: "The Spiritual Leadership Team moves that we change term lengths for the SLT and the commissions from three years to two years, with a possibility of serving up to three consecutive terms. People who are currently serving three year terms will continue to do so. These changes will begin in the 2017-18 church year for all new persons who join the SLT or a commission." Approving this motion will require changes to Berkey's Constitution. To see how the Constitution would change, click here

Pastoral Sabbatical Coverage
The Spiritual Leadership Team (SLT) has approved a sabbatical for Marilyn Rudy-Froese from September 19, 2016 to January 2, 2017. To work with Dan Schrock during her sabbatical, the SLT has hired Ron Guengerich, who recently retired as one of the pastors at Silverwood Mennonite Church here in Goshen. Ron will work on a half-time basis. He will preach once a month and work with the Caregiving and Worship Commissions, along with doing some pastoral care. This arrangement means that for the fall our congregation will have less pastoral time available than we normally have had (equivalent to one-half time less). We'll introduce Ron more fully in a future issue of the newsletter.
