SST Reflections

Gretchen with JudyThis week saw the return of a few Berkey college student attendees from their Study Service Term. Gretchen Geyer, who was in Peru reflects:

For the past three months I have been living with two different host families studying and doing voluntary service in Peru. Prior to leaving I had some expectations that I would be pushed out of my comfort zone but these expectations were far exceeded; from understanding culturally differences, to language barriers or being removed from most familiarities. Read more.

Free Firewood

FirewoodCorrection from last week:
There is a dead tree (it hasn't fallen yet) on the east side of the parking lot that needs to be taken down. The trustees will help take it down and cut it up. If you are interested in helping and getting some of the wood, please let Lowell Nafziger asap.  We would like to have it done by the end of May.

Getting to Know

Christian Education Commission

Allan Rudy-Froese

Allan Rudy-Froese
I grew up in the forests of British Columbia and the Saskatchewan prairies. I was a pastor in churches in Manitoba and Ontario for 16 years before starting my Ph D in homiletics (the art and theology of preaching) at the Toronto School of Theology. I am a professor at AMBS. I am passionate about humour, cooking, rituals of all sorts, classic rock & roll, theatre, and preaching.

Whether you are new or a charter member, we are continually learning to know each other and we want to get to know you more. It can be very simple, your name, what you do for a living and what you are interested in. You can view our newsletter archive for some examples. Interested in being featured? Let us know!

Did You Know?

Easter Cross
The Easter Cross that hangs in the library is the handiwork of our own Dee Albrecht.  In her own words:

I made the cross for an Easter visual. When creating visuals, I usually read Dan's sermons ahead of time, along with the scripture to get inspired for an art piece. Because we each have a different cross to bear in our lives, I remember wanting to convey this by using a unique medium instead of the traditional wood cross.  And since I'm not a carpenter and I don't sew, the wire mesh was something I could form. I found the antique large nails and really liked how they conveyed the sharp, difficult thorns that we often need to endure, that Jesus bore upon His head. The cross was suspended high in the corner above the piano area for the Easter season, and was later moved to the library.
