Note from Wilma Shank

thank you"Dear Friends, your many cards and messages have been heartwarming and a real encouragement as I have worked at the very intense and beneficial work of physical therapy. It's so good to have an assembly of faith remembering me in prayer." Wilma Shank returned home last Friday, October 23, after being in physical therapy for several weeks after knee surgery.

New to Our Library

library booksHouse Calls and Hitching Posts: Stories from Dr. Elton Lehman's Career Among the Amish, by Dorcas Sharp Hoover. These stories are sometimes humorous and often an intimate account of Dr. Lehman's 36 years of practicing medicine among the Amish of Wayne County, Ohio, for which he was named Country Doctor of the Year.
Gospels and Acts: The St. John's Bible, by Donald Jackson. Using tools and materials employed by scribes for thousands of years, the author and an international team of artists and scholars embarked on a monumental seven-year journey to create the first handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned since the invention of the printing press.

Potatoes for Model School

Potatoes for ModelMore Potatoes: The Kennebec potatoes dug at our recent “field trip” are now available in 5 lb. bags and they are stacked along the west side of the fellowship space. We are suggesting a $5 donation for a 5 pd. bag of potatoes. On Sunday mornings you can put your money in the container by the potatoes. If you pick up potatoes during the week please place the money in an envelope in James Yoder's mailbox. Checks can be made to Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship. Thank you for your support!

Caring Bridge Site

From Deb Brubaker: Dear Family and Friends, to keep you updated on my health journey, I created a Caring Bridge Site. Please visit my site often to stay connected and follow my progress. The site name is debbrubaker.

Meals for College Students

Meals for college studentsOver the years, Berkey has been a wonderful, welcoming church home for many college/young adult students. One of the highlights for the students is having a meal each Sunday after church. This allows them to get to know our church family in a more informal setting and learn to know a wider range of people. You don’t need to make anything fancy – just a simple meal of food you enjoy making. You can host in your home or at the church, using the church kitchen. You may sign up individually, with someone else or as a small group. Thank you so much for your meals and friendship to our students!  You can sign up for the meals at takethemameal.com Username: students  Password: bamf.

Learning Tour to Bolivia

Missions Commissions has been in conversation with Becca and Simon Smucker and MCC about a Learning Tour to Bolivia. We were hoping to go in June of 2016, but due to transitions in personnel at MCC Bolivia, we need to postpone the trip. It will most likely happen in 2017. In the meantime, we are exploring ways to connect with Simon and Becca, as well as Hannah Canaviri and Gretchen Geyer.

AMBS Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary

Join a webinar on Thursday, November 12, 2:00-3:30 pm with Greg Boyd and Drew G.I. Hart discussing how the Neo-Anabaptist movement in North America can engage "Anablactivism" and vice-versa. Drew's research, focused on the intersection of Black theology and Anabaptism, invites us to consider the potential of Anablacktivism for inspiring Christ's followers to faithful action today. We will ask Greg and Drew to consider how Neo-Anabaptism both challenges and sometimes acquiesces to systems of injustice, and what can be done to harness the energy and wisdom of both efforts for the sake of God's reign. Learn more and register.
