Good Friday Service
We hope you will join us for the April 18 Good Friday worship service, beginning at 7:00 p.m. It will include optional foot washing, communion, and prayers around the cross.
Easter Sunday Schedule
Please note that our morning schedule on Easter will be different. We'll begin with a continental breakfast at 9:00 a.m. to which everyone is invited. If you can, please bring fruit already sliced, hard boiled eggs, breads, pastries, or coffee cakes to share. Worship begins at 10:00 a.m., one half-hour after our normal time. There are no Christian Education classes that day.
If you need access to the sound booth for a special event, please see one of the regular audio-visual operators (Phil Bauman, Ben Buckwalter, Michael Sherer, Matthew Williams), the office manager, or one of the pastors for a key. To preserve the equipment settings our AV operators have carefully fine-tuned, the sound booth will remain locked during the week and a key will no longer be available from the church office cupboard.
Next Sunday, April 13th, at 7:30 p.m., Emily Grimes will be giving her Senior Voice Recital as a part of her music degree completion at Goshen College. The recital will be held in Rieth Recital hall, and will be approximately one hour long. Free and open to the public, all are encouraged to attend! A reception will follow.
Hacienda Gives Back
On Monday, April 14, There will be a Hacienda Gives Back event for Kids Alive International supporting Joan Troyer to go to the Dominican Republic. There are tokens available at the church along with a flyer on the bulletin board.
Vacation Bible School
Summer Bible School will be held at College Mennonite Church on Tuesday through Friday, June 10 through 13, 2014, as a joint effort of six Mennonite congregations: Assembly, el Buen Pastor, College, Eighth Street, Faith, and Berkey Avenue. The coordinating committee of representatives from these congregations has begun planning for these four mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The “Come and See” curriculum will again be used with children who will begin kindergarten in 2014 and 2015. Kindergarteners through sixth graders will experience the curriculum “Jesus: The Upside-Down Mission.” As always, it will take many people of different ages with many different gifts and skills to help make Bible school happen. Registration forms for adult and youth volunteers will be distributed on April 13, and registration forms for children in our congregations and guests will be distributed later in April. The coordinator from our congregation is Deb Williams.
MHS Spring Banquet
The annual Mennonite Historical Society spring banquet and fundraiser will take place at here at Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship on Saturday, April 12. The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a delicious meal featuring an "Amish" haystack feast, followed at 7:00 p.m. by a presentation by Valerie Weaver-Zercher, author of "Thrill of the Chaste: The Allure of Amish Romance Novels" (Johns Hopkins, 2013) and managing editor at Herald Press. The title of her presentation is "Thrill of the Chaste: Tracing the Rise and Reach of Amish Fiction." Bethany Christian Schools
Next year 6 students from our congregation will be attending Bethany Christian Schools. Their tuition totals $59,662. After the contribution from our general budget and generous contributions from people in the congregation, we only need $6,871 to reach our goal. Spring Fish Fry
Bethany Christian High School’s junior class fish fry is 4:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 25. Come for an evening of fellowship, homemade pie, and all the fish you can eat. Tickets are $10 for adults and carryout and $5 for children K-6 (preschool-age free). Tickets may be purchased from any Bethany junior or at the school.
Bright Time Summer Camp
Bright Time Summer Camp, held June 9-13, has more than 40 athletic, fine arts, and academic enrichment camps for age 3 through rising grade 8. Camps are just $15-$40. The early music ensemble Fleur de Lys
will present a concert this Sunday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall. Handel, Byrd and Bach are among the composers whose works the ensemble will feature on baroque instruments including flute, violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord. The 5-member ensemble is based in South Bend, having been resident at both the University of Notre Dame and St. Mary's College. Admission is $10, with tickets available at the door one hour in advance of the concert.
Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary
AMBS is having two spring workdays and needs help cleaning up the campus after the long, harsh winter. Work will include clearing debris and flower beds, felling dead trees and general sprucing up.
