Advent Giving Project

booksThe College Board estimates that the cost of textbooks and supplies for undergraduate students for 2016-17 at $1100 to $1200. Many minority students at Goshen College do not have the funds to absorb this expense. For our Advent 2016 giving project, the Mission Commission will collect money to assist Goshen College minority students who are unable to purchase required textbooks. To contribute funds for this cause please designate your giving in the Berkey offering to “textbooks for students.”

Following the meal, Femi will share stories—from his soccer career and his amazing story of faith and perseverance in overcoming a crippling leg deformity as a child in Benin to fulfilling his dream of playing soccer professionally—and answer questions from the audience. The main course of this family-style meal will be Groundnut (Peanut) Stew—a Hollinger-Janzen family favorite from their days in Benin. Hot dogs and other foods will also be available. The event is sponsored by Waterford Mennonite Church youth as a fundraiser for their activities such as attending the Mennonite Church youth convention this summer. Prayer
Please contact the office by noon on Thursday with prayer requests.

Our Church
Julie Zimmerman came home from Elkhart General Hospital this past Wednesday following open heart surgery on the previous Thursday. We give thanks for this progress and ask you to remember her in your prayers as she regains strength and health.

IN-MI Mennonite Conference
Pray for Cedar Grove Mennonite, Manistique, MI (Anna Troyer, contact person). Pray that their church will find a new pastor.
Pray for Grand Marais Mennonite, Grand Marais, MI (Phil Bontrager, pastor). They give praise for the Ecumenical Women's Bible Study who bagged 417 pairs of shoes. The shoes are shipped to Africa for use by school children.
Pray that their church may demonstrate the love of Christ as they share the facility's community emergency shelter. Its first use was in November during a gale of snow with high winds that took out electricity for 24 hours.

Mennonite Education Agency
Pray for the tutors and students of the 38 Anabaptist Biblical Institute-IBA study centers who meet weekly for their study sessions. May God grant the tutors wisdom, patience and lots of energy in their ministry of teaching. And pray that the students become essential instruments in the Hispanic churches as we build the Kingdom of God.

Mennonite Mission Network
Tom and Disa Rutschman, serving with Mennonite Mission Network, have shared Jesus as the Light of the World through many long winters on the Arctic Circle in Sweden. Pray that this year they may again create sparks of life through teaching in schools and the leadership they provide at Jokkmokk Free Church.
