Community Announcements

Oaklawn Education Seminar

Join us June 16 on the Goshen Oaklawn campus, 8:00-11:00 a.m., for a discussion about how minimizing certain aspects of biblical scripture may only be inhibiting our ability to relate to those who have experienced trauma. Speaker Corinna Guerrero will share her perspective on how Scriptures that contain murder (Genesis 4), rape (Genesis 34) or social desolation (the Prophets) are necessary components to helping those who have experienced trauma. Recovering a biblical history laced with loss helps us bridge the gap between trauma thousands of years ago and trauma today. Register online.

Volunteer Mediator Training

In your everyday life, do you find yourself trying to help others deal with wrongdoing or conflict? If so, consider attending the Center for Community Justice’s volunteer mediator training provided by VORP (Victim Offender Reconciliation Program) and CMP (Community Mediation Program). Attendees will learn how to proactively address the effects of crime and wrongdoing in a manner that meets the needs of both parties. If you are interested in being a positive force in the community, please contact us. The training will be on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, June 21, 23, and 25 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday/Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. There is a $50 fee to reserve your space. Please visit www.centerforcommunityjustice.org to register or contact Anne Lehman, (574)295-6149 with further questions.

At GriefShare, you’ll learn valuable information that will help you through this difficult time in your life. Registration is $20 and $30 for couples which includes a workbook and supplies. There is no cost for previous attenders. Scholarships are available. For more information contact the Silverwood church office, 533-1922 or go online. To sign-up call 533-1922 or email Ms. Strite. This Sunday, June 12, Linda Oyer of Mennonite Mission Network leads a “walking church” in a 142-acre park near Paris, France. Pray for this annual tradition that makes it easy for people to invite their neighbors who would not easily enter a church. This year’s theme is “The Symbolism of Water in the Bible.”
