College Meals

college mealsOver the years, Berkey has been a wonderful, welcoming church home for many college/young adult students. One of the highlights for the students is having a meal each Sunday after church. This allows them to get to know our church family in a more informal setting and learn to know a wider range of people. You don’t need to make anything fancy – just a simple meal of food you enjoy making. You can host in your home or at the church, using the church kitchen. You may sign up individually, with someone else or as a small group. You can go online directly to sign up for a meal (username: students and password: bamf) or contact Ruth Roth.

While some people dismiss the Bible as out of touch and others claim the Bible supports one view with no room for questions, “what if more of us found ourselves in communities of engagement around Scripture?” Jewel Jewel Gingerich Longenecker, AMBS associate dean for leadership education, asks in her guest post on Practicing Reconciliation.

Getting to Know

Becca Smucker

Getting to Know
I grew up in Harleysville, Pennsylvania in a family of four. My parents, brother, and sister-in-law still live in the Harleysville area. I attended Christopher Dock Mennonite High School where I enjoyed being involved in orchestra, track, and field hockey. I first visited Indiana on a college visit to Goshen College. I studied Psychology at GC and minored in Spanish, Peace & Justice, and International Studies. I met my husband, Simon, at Goshen College and have been married since May 2013. For the past couple of years, I have worked as a Skills Trainer at Oaklawn Psychiatric Center. This means that I teach skills such as emotion regulation, anger management, and building self-esteem to children, adolescents, and parents. My favorite activities include running, reading, biking, eating, laughing, and spending time with friends and family.

Whether you are new or a charter member, we are continually learning to know each other and we want to get to know you more. It can be very simple, your name, what you do for a living and what you are interested in. You can view our newsletter archive for some examples. Interested in being featured? Let us know!
